Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
I have banked here for 2 yrs and have only a savings account. I have been in good standing with them., Well this past week I received a check from a company that wanted me to work for them. I took the check into the bank and told the teller that I didn't want to take any money from it until I made sure that it cleared. But I wanted to take out $25 dollars that was in my account. The teller took the check and was gone for 15 minutes. She came back and told me that the check was fraud and took it from me. I called the company in front of her and they were upset and told me that they would send me another one. The Next day I went to my ATM and realized that they blocked me from using my ATM card and depositing a check so I went into the bank the next day and the same teller (a woman with shoulder length dark brown hair) lied and told me that she didn't know why it did that and said that she would order me a new card. She never told me that my card wouldn't work or why.

The next day I went back in and asked a differnet teller(A Male) why they blocked me from depositing my checks and getting money from my ATM. I asked them why they were playing games with me? He told me that It was because I was trying to cash that last check, which was A Big Fat Lie. I asked them why they did it I did nothing wrong and it wasn't my fault that someone gave me a bad check. It had nothing to do with my ATM card. He told me that it was to keep me from trying to cash another one threw my ATM, and that they were trying to protect me., I kept asking him why would I do such a thing when I knew that their had been problems?? I cash an average of 25 or more checks per month! All in good standing! He had no answer for me I told him that they were trying to protect themselves and they were telling me that I was dishonest! For something that was not my fault! Another teller told me that the fraud department did it and that they had to decide if they were going to give me another card?????

What a bunch of crap! I did nothing wrong and was being treated like a fraud scammer or something! It was probably because the first teller lied( the woman with dark shoulder length hair) and said that I was trying to cash it. If I wanted to do that I would of taken it to the ATM! What a bunch of idiots! This Bank Branch is bad news, if you belong to Bellco go to another branch like the one on 104th. They have poor customer service, have tellers that lie and want to throw you under the bus! I told them that I wanted to take all my money out of that bank which I did and I have another bank that I deal with.

Why woud I want to screw my account up!

For the same reason you tried to deposit a check you suspected was fraudulent into your account in the first place.  Because you are naive and apparently not willing to learn from your mistakes.

First of all the funds can be made available to you well before it would "clear" as you say.  Did you even bother to look up Regulation CC(Expedited Funds Availability Act)?  How about searching for other reports where they deposited the check and the money was avaiable only to find out that the check actually is a fraudulent check.

The only reason you haven't sent money to these scammers is because you have gotten very lucky and the banks have stopped you from you being your own worst enemy.  But if you continue to do this, there will be a point and time when the bank won't catch it, the money will become available and you will "think" it is okay to send them money.  Only to have the rug pulled out from you a few days later.

Even if the check comes back as bad before the funds become available..you are still seen as a risk to the bank..especially if it happens more than once.  And if you had this in the past you are lucky the banks didn't close out your account for you even attempting to deposit a fraudulent check.   Again if you leave this Credit Union, it is just a matter of time before you select a bank that is going to actually close your account out in this situation.  Not only that, you could also be put into ChexSystems for the fraud, and if that happens no regular bank will touch you for years.

Again, I know that your mind can not be changed and you still don't see how lucky you got or what damage you could cause yourself.  It is more for other people who by chance may actually pay attention to these warnings.

I have experience with scammers in the past and would never send them money for anything, I have been to other banks and I never been treated this way, I have showed them the checks and they have told me that they were bad, They never kept me from using my ATM Bank cards! I am not that stupid! I wasn't sure because they were a legitimate company. The check would of never cleared the bank anyway so what is your point! It doesn't clear how can you send anyone any money! Hello wake up! It is the way the whole situation was handled they didn't save me from anything because you can't send money to a scammer that check doesn't clear, and I wouldn't do that anyway. Why woud I want to screw my account up!

But you tried to deposit a fraudulent check.  Whether you wanted the money from it is not the point.

They did the right thing.

You must have suspected there might be a problem with it or you wouldn't have wanted to wait until it cleared.

Immediately go back to the branch and give that teller a huge thank you card. Because she saved you anywhere from several hundred to a few thousand dollars. Because if you actually sent the money the person you got the check from you would be on the hook for it.

The fact is when you presented the check to be deposited that is considered "cashing it" even if you don't attempt to make any withdraws at that time.

This is a common scam and these scammers use the bank regulations(Expedited Funds Availability Act) and your lack of knowledge/greed to their advantage. Because per regulations the check amount would have been made available to you in a day or teo. When you would have sent the money. Only to find out a few days later it was actually a fraudulent check. And yes regardless if what you think, and I know you are saying I am wrong, but the facts and law are not on your side in this case.

So again be very thankful you only have the issue you do.
