As a personal advice, if you ever try to purchase any product from the mighty Best Buy, and think of financing it through their external provider, HSBC, well, think twice or three times or 100 times, my friends... what I'm experiencing with these two companies is a total, total joke. I can't even qualify it, simply disgusting.

I purchased my TV from the local BestBuy a few months back and moved to a new address right after. In the meantime I've travelled abroad for about 3 weeks, came back, but never received a first bill from them. At some point, about two months after my initial purchase, I started getting phone calls from HSBC, their financing partner, frantically trying to reach me to collect my late payments. They overcharged my account by about $150... I tried to explain the situation, the fact that I moved, travelled abroad, and never received a bill from them (couldn't get in touch with them either since I was overseas). After 10 conversations and multiple back-and-forth's, they finally accept my reasoning and agree to cancel most of the overcharges (about $120)... alright, I figured $30 loss is not a big deal after all (out of $150)..

next bill, everything is fine, I'm charged the regular amount... Two months after, though, SURPRISE, SURPRISE! I'm charged a $16.61 Finance Fee and a $6.99 Debt Cancellation Fee for a total of $26.60... I call HSBC to get an answer.. on the Finance Charge, I'm told my initial 12-month interest free promo was cancelled automatically when I didn't make my first payment:))) crazy... this was the first time I heard about the purchase financing agreement being cancelled... when I tell the guy what the initial issue was, he goes: "I apologize... anything else I may help you with?"... LOL!!! Every time I repeated my question, he would say very politely, "well, I'm so sorry to hear that sir, but there's nothing I can do, the promo offer is expired"... I told him about the previous bill being clean of any other charges, at which point he respectfully instructed me to call back the following day when his supervisor would be back..:)))

unbelievable...

on the 2nd issue, the debt cancellation fee, he gave me a number, the reputable "Debt Cancellation Department" (obviously) number, which, also obviously, is closed on Sundays... lol!

finally, I gave it my last shot, i.e. calling BestBuy customer service... you probably already know what the answer was... "I'm so sorry to hear that sir, but I can forward you to HSBC to get more info on your account"... unfreakin'believable....

CONCLUSION: I will never, ever purchase anything else from BestBuy my whole life... not even a bottle of water
