Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

I noticed while paying double payments for a couple of years that my balance was not dropping that much.  I phoned bestbuy customer support, for them to tell me that I had signed up for a protection plan and they had been billing me monthly since March of 2005.  I told them that I did not sign up for anything and they told me that they would have to investigate it and would mail me something within 90 days.

Almost 90 days later I get a letter stating that they indeed could NOT prove my enrollment in this plan and that they were going to refund me for the last 90 days..... Yes.....90 days......what happened to the other 4+ years????!!

I called HSBC to dicuss this and they told me that since it had been over 3 years that is all they could do.  If I wanted to dispute the settlement I could write a letter to the address provided on the letter and see what happens then.

This is totally unethical and fraudulant on their part as they now owe me over $1000.00 dollars in charges that I did NOT authorize.

Have any of you been through this?  If so, is there anything that I can do to get my money back?  The bad part is my 0% interest deal is up next month and should have been payed off, but due to their unauthorized charges, I still have an outstanding balance.  I need help in this situation, as I have already called my attorney and am waiting on his call back to discuss.

Any input is appreciated.

Thanks.

BEST BUY/HSBC account payments

#2Consumer Suggestion

I'm not an employee, just a consumer of the HSBC/Best Buy card and this is my experience only.  HSBC will hold the payment you pay online if you attempt to pay it close to the due date in my experience. By paying 24 hrs before the due date, you are taking a HUGE chance that the payment will not post on time and you will be charged a late fee. I have found they need a minimum of two business days in advance of the due date to have the payment posted timely. On the other hand, if you pay very early, like right after the statement drops, the payment only takes 24 hours to post!

As to their site not showing the actual statement, you can find it, just not very easily. They do post a pdf copy of the actual written statement. To find it go to the statement section of the site, click on Historical statements, and then click where it says "View, print or save statement".  It is in your best interest to review and save that statement either online or have a copy mailed to you each month to see exactly what you are being charged and where the payment is applied. If you don't review your statement monthly, how do you know that the balance is correct? Answer: you don't.

As to getting refunded amounts that you have been charged without your authorization, they normally limit the refunds to 60 or 90 days because the assumption is you have been reviewing your actual statement to see how the funds are applied. I agree that you should not have to pay for something you did not authorize. However it looks like you authorized it because you never disputed it before now and you have had 3 yrs to see the charge on your statement.  It would be tough for any attorney to claim you did not know about it if it has been itemized on each statement.

If the original poster is like most people they pay the bill online, and on the main page,(most people being very busy), they only list; your credit limit, current balance, pending charges, available credit, cash limit, cash available, last statment balance, last statment recieved, and minimum payment due.  I had the HSBC card for 5 months before I noticed I was paying 16 dollars a month(unsure what the interest was, because they sent us a sheet with 4 or 5 categorys listing diffrent interest rates) I emailed them asking why I was paying and the balance only went down by about 3 dollars each month(one of the months i paid online I paid it on the 1st, the due date being the 2nd, and they still gave me a late charge because they didnt take it out until the 5th) I then found out that there are 2 transactions on the bill for the same thing, all it says is DEBT CANCELLATION, I do remember signing up for it, but don't understand why it is being charged twice each month and couldnt get an explanation out of them.  In order to find out how much everything is a month you would have to go to the last statement to see how much interest was last billing cycle and how much the debt cancellation was last month, they do not show you,(that I can find) what your interest is for the current bill or how much the debt cancellation is for the current bill, all I see is last months billing information, I really disapprove of how that is set up, I have to pay a minimum of 16 dollars a month (this month for some reason its 17 dollars) and the interest for LAST MONTH was 7 dollars and the debt cancellation was around 4 dollars and some change, it would be nice if they show you everything for the current month so you can acount for the interest so ur not only paying 4 or 5 dollars a month.

You allowed your credit card to be charged this fee for years?

This is why you read your statement.

By law they are required to refund only for 90 days, so they are doing what is required by law.
