I ordered three pairs of eyeglass frames from bestbuyeyeglasses.com on 4/15/10, paying by Mastercard.  Deeming none of them suitable, I re-packed the three eyeglass frames securely in the original box, insuring the parcel for $400.00, and shipped the package via UPS.

Having received my return on 5/5/10, bestbuyeyeglasses.com credited my Mastercard account only $124.69, the cost of one frame minus the restocking fee, telling me when I called to complain that there was only one pair of frames in the box.  Naturally, the customer service reps were obnoxious.  After getting the run-around, I finally was able to speak to a manager, Nancy, who told me that bestbuyeyeglasses.com would do nothing to resolve the problem until I filed a claim with UPS, an absurd request since the package was obviously received by the company.

UPS denied my claim because the parcel was packed by me and not a UPS employee. Later I discovered that my claim was not even investigated by Crawford & Company, the claims representative for UPS.  Apparently, UPS sells only the illusion of insurance, which I realize is a separate issue.

Despite this, the managers continued to insist that I press UPS for reimbursement and offered no compensation, not even store credit. I believe that bestbuyeyeglasses.com committed outright fraud and I doubt that I am the company's only victim.
