me and my wife got a car from there shortly after we had moved to Nevada (this was back in 2005...coincidentally around the same time your thing went down... so ok, we went down there because at the time...both of us had a repo, had no logical way of getting from s****.. we thought "hey, cool" so we get down there....they kept trying to get us financed for a dodge neon that ran badly...was dirty...and had a few other issues. they also said it was the ONLY car we could get financed for (which i knew was a load of BS, i had physically seen 4 other cars in better condition and CHEAPER...)....so they run our credit...and as i had suspected, they needed the car to be in ONE of our names and have someone with better credit on as a co-signer. once we produced a co-signer...our car options were less limited. long story short...here's what went down.... we ended up having to get the car (a 2004 Cavalier) in my mother-in-law's name...and my wife as the co-signer. they asked my mother-in-law for a post dated check for the down payment and another check for $300. they also had told us that we were getting some service/maintenance plan that basically covered everything from oil changes to replacing head gaskets....who wouldn't pass that up, right? heh so they got all the paperwork they needed..we went in...signed what needed to be signed on our end...they affixed the temp plate on it...and away we went... never once did we get a call to come pick up a green slip (we're both from CA. normally when you get a car from a lot in CA....they take care of registering the car because they are tied in with the DMV out there...makes things quick/easy...), nor were we made aware of the fact that the plates are not mailed to you...rather you have to wait for said greenslip...take that down to the DMV...and get yr plates and register the car. we had told the person doing the deal for us that we were from CA, he mentioned he was too...and i had asked him if we needed to do anything different about registering the car..he said no. well, months go by.... we're calling there once a week... turns out they claim the green slip was sent to CA where my mother-in-law was living...she never got it. (they even gave us a tracking # from fed-ex which proved to be invalid)....so they never really sent it. the temp plate expired in august...we're now in december, i get pulled over. oh, here's another funny thing. full coverage insurance was to be included...never was (i know about the GAP insurance...that, of course, WAS included)...anyways, so i get pulled over...explain to the NHP officer the situation, she let me go and was pretty cool about it. at this point, i called the dealership..i was LIVID.i told them that i was going to take the car back, get any money we had paid into back if they didnt' hand over the green slip and agree to pay any late charges imposed by the state for waiting practically FOUR MONTHS after the plates had expired to register the car. they agreed to give me the green slip...didn't agree to pay the charges....i figured...it would cost me more to get those fees back...so i never pursued that. oh, and remember that killer service plan that was offered? they tried to say my mother-in-law- said NO to that. we had copies of the paperwork,,,what had happened with that is...the loan guy had highlighted the wrong signature lines (she has bad vision) for her to sign..so she THOUGHT she was signing YES...so we never had that... we ended up trading that car in for a saturn vue...heh, a 5 speed no less...almost a year later. our experience was so bad at Bill Heard Chevy....that everytime we had to pass by there...we'd get agitated... i would avoid that dealership like the black plague and advise anyone else to do the same. after asking a few people at work about them...they had told me nothing but bad things

Kim,
Unfortunately you have some leg work to do before getting your self out of this. I am finance specialist for another dealership. I have been in the business for over 5 years and I pride myself on being honest. I would have to see your paperwork to guide you in the write direction. You will definetly have to get the DMV involved. Like auto insurance, they have the Insurance Commisioner to keep agencies in check. Well thats what the DMV is for as well.
There is some hope of getting out of this. You will definetly have to get the DMV involved in this one way or the other. However I work in the car industry, and I would have to see your paper work.
