I PURCHASED 2 VEHICLES FROM BILL HEARD CHEVY ON 3-28-05, I WENT THERE BECAUSE OF THEIR PRINT AD AND RADIO AD WHICH STATED THEY WOULD BEAT ANY OTHER ADVERTISED PRICE BY $1000 OR YOU WOULD GET A FREE CORVETTE. I WAS AT THE DEALERSHIP FOR 7 HOURS HAGGLING OVER PRICING, WHICH I STATED TO JASON ON THE PHONE I WANTED TO KNOW THEIR BOTTOM LINE, NO SCREWING AROUND ON PRICING.

WELL THEY DID JUST THAT, KEPT ME THERE FOREVER AND FINALLY WHEN I SHOWED THEM A COURTESY CHEVY AD FOR A 2005 MALIBU WHICH WAS FOR $15799, WHICH MEANS I SHOULD HAVE BOUGHT THIS CAR FOR $14799, COME TO MY SURPRISE WHEN I LOOKED OVER THE PAPERS(SHOULD HAVE CAUGHT THIS BEFORE LEAVING BUT WAS PRETTY TIRED FROM GETTING SCREWED AGAIN BY THE BIG DEALER.

ANYWAYS I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR A CALL TO LET ME KNOW WHERE MY NEW VETTE IS(HAHA)OR WHEN MY $1000 WOULD BE IN THE MAIL. WE CANNOT GET ANYONE TO GIVE US AN ANSWER. WE HAVE TALKED TO EVERY GOD d**n MANAGER IN THE PLACE AND THEY KEEP PASSING THE BUCK, PROMISING TO CALL AND NOTHING HAPPENS. BILL HEARD HAS F***ED SO MANY PEOPLE AND I GET TO BE THE PROUD OWNER OF A BIG CHEVY F***ING.

Dear Ray,

What you're talking about used to fly... in 1995. In this economy, the smart car dealers are changing the way they do business.  We are seeing more no-haggle dealers now.  That is good.

A dealership has to know what they need to get for a car... and they do.  Just set the price there, advertise honestly at that price, tell callers the price on the telephone.  You have no idea what is happening in this society.  Adapt to it, get honest, or wind up in the street with nothing.

That's it.  Whether you like it or not.  That's it. The person that got ripped off can only blame himself for being so naive as to believe a lying car dealer, but the dealership should not be dishonest like it is.

We need more laws regulating the car sales business.

car dealerships i had the impression

i used to work for a gmc dealer. i had the impression that all dealerships are crooks and out to screw the customer. and admittedly a lot do and that gives the rest a bad name. anyway, the dealership that i worked for went out of their way to make sure the customer was taken care of and to let people know that not ALL dealrships were screw jobs. the so-called diamon in the rough. i hate being in a dealership for hours sitting on my a*s. but you are spending tens of thousands of dollars on a product that will hopefully last a long time. so a dealership that takes a little more time to make sure you get what you want is, in my book, doing a good job. granted 7 hours is rediculous but two or three is not unreasonable. when buying used ALWAYS get the VIN and then get a carfax report. I did this on a Yukon that the dealer said was premo. I did a carfax and 26 hits came back. also make sure you do this yourself dont let the dealership do it. when it comes to run your credit, make sure there is a deal IN WRITING before credit is ran. that way even if your credit is a little shakey you can still get the deal or they will not sell a vehicle. please understand that car salesmen are working for commission and of course they want to sell a vehicle for as much as possible. a bigger commission, right? so put yourself in their shoes. but if some a-hole comes in demanding the lowest price or he was leaving i say "bye bye". you might want to do yourself a favor and go to the website of the company that sells any particular vehicls (gmc, chevy, toyota, etc) and see what a new vehicle goes for. print it off and go to the local dealership, show them what you printed off and start haggling. same with used cars. go to kelley blue book, nada, etc and print off what the price for the particular car you want. a little homework will save you a LOT of aggravation and time at the dealrship. enjoy!

Ray you are wrong. your goal is to extract as much money from the consumers as possible on every sale

First of all your comment comparing car buying to grocery shopping at Wal Mart is wrong. Stores rely on administered pricing while car dealers rely on nonadministered pricing which means that you play the consumer surplus game. Being a car sales person, I trust that you do not make thousands of sales a day so your goal is to extract as much money from the consumers as possible on every sale. After all, you may not make another sale for the next few days, weeks, or even months. Consumers always want to pay as low of a price for a product as possible. Simple law of economics; can't be changed. When they ask for your bottom price, I'm sure you do not tell them the lowest price that you are willing to sell at but rather one that is slightly lower than the previously quoted price. So if they can go to another dealer and get a better price, then that is their advantage. Price competition is a primary way for businesses to compete. As for your comment about why you should tell them the price when they will go to another dealer and get a price for a dollar lower; I have this to say: Will you buy something without knowing the price? Vehicles are high involvement purchases and consumers generally will not buy without doing their homework. And if they go to another dealership and get a price slightly lower than yours, you can always offer another slightly discounted price because your initial "bottom line" is not the lowest price you are willing to sell for.

I work at a new car dealership in Georgia. I am annoyed people like you that call in and the first thing you say "what is your bottom dollar". First, why do we what to give you a price so you can go to another car dealership and beat our price by a dollar???? A car dealership isnt a non-profit organization, why dont you go to wal-mart and say what is your bottom dollar on your groceries? Why dont you go in there and make a reasonible offer? Also, another thing about people like you, is there is usually a trade thrown in after we give you a price and you always want a ridiculous price for that peice of junk vehicle. Why do we want to sell our vehicle for invoice and give you retail for yours?? Another Second, how the heck do we even know you can even buy?? Just something for all you whats your bottom dollar car shoppers
