I am the owner of BJs Chrome. Although I was made aware of this report in the past, I felt it would not impact my business becuase I am mainly a wholesale supplier. Since the economy has changed and I have expanded into more retail sales I am being made aware of this more and more and feel I need to respond. Although this was a couple of years ago, I remember it well due the pain involved in dealing with Anthony Williams.
First of all, I only took care of him because the manager at a Discount Tire store, with whom I do a lot of business with, asked me to take care of him because he simply could not deal with him any more. I spoke to Anthony many times explaining the plating process and why re-chrome plating was not covered under warranty. He called many times asking the same questions over and over again, and I listened to and answered him every time that I could come to the phone. It was explained that although we do offer a five year warranty on our chrome plating, when stripping and re-plating a wheel, the quality of the chrome is limited to the casting of the wheel. Chrome plating is stripped with acid and then the wheel is polished before the plating process. Every time this is done a little bit of the alluminum is removed from the wheel. The more this is done the greater the chance of pits, or porosity, in the casting. Most shops offer a one or three year warranty and I am not aware of any shop that offers a warranty on re-chromes. It was also explained many times that we would need a signature if he paid with a credit card. This is usually done via a fax machine or through email. Anthony stated that he did not have access to a fax machine nor did he have an email address, so it was explained that we would mail the invoice and would need it back signed. When his wheels were ready to ship back we still had not received the signed invoice back from Anthony. When it was again explained that the wheels would not be shipped without the signed invoice, Anthony miraculously found a fax machine and we received the signed invoice.
Three of his wheels came out very good, one came out less than hoped but was as good as it would be due to the pits in the casting. I tried to convince Anthony that replating this wheel again would not be a good idea and would probably cause more issues. Anthony insisted that we plate it again and, as predicted, the wheel came out worse.
Anthony states that he had sent wheels out for plating before through Discount Tire and "they came back 100% beautiful". This is a testament to our work because we have plated many wheels for Discount Tire and still do. We have been in different magazines (i.e. Vette and Drive) with special thanks from customers for an incredible job. We acheive high quality plating on wheels most shops wont touch.
Not only is his report unjustfied, it is filled with inaccuracies. There should be some level of investigating before an opinion of an individual is allowed to impact the reputation of a company.
