I was attempting to verify the validity of one of my answers for a grad school
educational project, so I was googling it when the link to brainmass.com came up.

It turned out that someone in my same program had posted the very exact assignment I was working on, word for word.  So the company obviously has not scruples anyway.

I had already done the assignment and was just looking to verify how good I was, so I ponied up the two or three dollars (plus an un-mentioned $1.50 "service" fee) and downloaded it.

When I read it, I was shocked to say the least.  It was supposedly "answered" by a PhD candidate (from Bulgaria or somewhere!) and it was completely and totally wrong!

It was like he never actually read the words in the assignment and copied and pasted a solution out of a book.  It was a simple math probability lesson, and both sections of it
were totally (and very obviously) completely wrong.

So I notified them of this.  Their response:

We regret to hear that you were not satisfied with the material you recently 
downloaded from our Solution Library. Postings are included in the Library when 
the student who originally submits the question verifies with us that the 
responses were correct and that they were fully satisfied with what was 
provided. 

However, we are happy to offer you a promo code so that you can download 
free-of-charge something that is more to your liking. Please find a promo code 
below that will allow you to download 1 free solution from our Solution Library. 
Simply search the Library as usual and enter this code on the payment page. 

The lesson is still there!  As incorrect as always, I assume.  I didn't download it again, but there is no mention of their correcting it.

So don't pay anything for this junk service.  If this is how they value correct data, then I would not trust anything else printed on there.

BrainMass Solutions are intended as guides to help students with their studies.  All Solutions can be downloaded by students to help them with ideas, research and guidance on their specific questions, projects and assignments.

Our Solution Library database has over 190,000 active question/solution sets.  When we receive a complaint regarding the correctness of a Solution, we offer a 100% satisfaction guarantee (in the form of a Credit for a future purchase), which is what this customer received, as noted in the email he/she included.

Additionally, upon notice that there may be an issue with a Solution, the Online TA (tutor) who addressed the question must confirm with our Operations team that the answer is correct in order for the Solution to remain in our system.

Unfortunately, without knowing the specific question, we cannot judge the validity of this customer's complaint.  We have double checked our system and can confirm we have no Online TAs who reside in Bulgaria.  If the customer would like to email our team with the specific question (all our Solutions have a ID number) we would be happy to re-evaluate the validity of the question.
