Briley's Automotive ripoff, overcharging, never fix, consistantly breaking, taken advantage Baytown Texas
In october of 2004 my car (1998 Ford Escort)overheated and was taken to Briley's automeotive on Garth Road in Baytown. They stated they would beat all other estimates of Butch Brandon's $1200, and Independence auto of $1100. After all work was done the price was well over $1300. He (Wade, owner) gave reasons and I took them. He repalced all water lines, water pump, spark plugs of $100, head gasket, labor and thermostat. The Car was finally fixed and on the road the first of november.
In December I brought the car back because I saw water leaking from under the car. 'New radiator' was what he stated and $475.87 is what he charged for a new radiator. In January, 60 days later, when I had my oil changed the mechanic stated the head gasket was leaking oil. I immediately brought it to Wade's attention and he stated the head gasket needed to be tightened. I agreed and he stated that the work was done.
In febuary, not ninety days later I brought the car back to him stating it was still overheating. He looked at it and said it was a stuck thermostat nothing to worry about. Unfortunately, there was something to worry about. I am single mother of two struggling with 2 jobs to keep my family as safely out of the red as possible.
On Friday April 29 my car overheated. I was in bi-weekly conversations with Wade over the overheating issue and he consitently told me nothing was wrong. The car was towed and is determined that the car has a cracked head. I was distraught and asked him after he told me that this car would not need any major repairs for several years how this happened. He told me 'they just go bad.. no reason'. But there is a reason!
Speaking to the machine shop and describing the head gasket leaking I was informed that the head gasket of a '98 for escort can not be tightened - if it was leaking it was installed wrong, Causing the head to warp and crack!!!!
Briley's stated that he wanted to know if I wanted the car 'FIXED or FIXED FIXED'. Confused I asked him what he meant. He stated he can fix the car to last a couple of months or a couple of years. My response was that he was suppose to 'FIX FIX' it last time and I expect the same.
My monthly income is barely $1450.00 and Wad from Briley's automotive wants $1300.00 for an old head or $2000 for a new one. Do Not use Briley's Automotive in Baytown!!!!
They do not fix to fix they fix to break. I am dissatisfied taht within 6 months the car is broken and out of commission again.
I spent $2000.00 dollars fixing a car not work blue book value ogf $750.00 on the words of a mechanic that stated that after this I would never need any other major repairs to my vehicle. He lied.
This instances are as best of my memory. I believed the car was in their shop in November but have been told otherwise. I am not allowed to recieve my car which unbeknownst to them has my original receipt.
I called on March 4, 2005 and stated that they needed to do right by me and not charge. They stated if I wouldn't pay to come and pick up the broken car in pieces.
