In mid-January 2005 I had the misfortune of having a flat tire near my apartment in Ames, only about a mile away from Butch's Amoco/BP. I had a friend riding with me who has a AAA membership and allowed me to use it for the purpose of getting it towed.

AAA chose Butch's Amoco and contacted them, then called us back and advised us it would be a 45 minute wait. It took over an hour for them to show and I had that same friend drive her car and us both following the tow truck to where I wanted it towed, Trickle Tire and Auto, in Ames.

I did this to fix the flat tire originally, but as we followed the tow truck to Trickle's Tire, less than two blocks away from Butch's, we went over the railroad tracks on near Main and Clark Street and it appeared the car was not fastened on properly to the tow truck. It bounced and punched a massive hole in the gas tank, which was near full, and left a trail of gas, down about 4 blocks to the Trickle Tire parking lot.

I contacted Butch's the next morning, JR told me they'd get back to me. No call back that entire day. I called them back the next morning another employee answered and let me speak to JR, he advised they'd get another tank on and fix the tire for free.

It took them 5 days to get another tank, when I had to call cabs for rides to work, and Butch's would not reimburse or give me rides, or a rental car, and then when they fixed the tire, the tire they replaced, went flat under two weeks later, driving in no different conditions, and around nothing sharp, just was from too much wear.

Bad service. Bad reputation. Bad all around in my opinion.

The "free" tire they gave me, to somehow compensate me for all the trouble they initially caused, went flat and the tread was below legal limits less than two months after I got my car back from them.

I worked for a company that leased equipment to Butch's for a large some of money to be paid monthly until paid in full. Butch's Amoco was ALWAYS late on their payment, and I would have to call them every single day (Monday-Friday) to get paid. They are losers, treat Ames college students like crap (I grew up there), and don't have 2 dimes to rub together..or they are hiding their $$$. I can believe that you had a lot of trouble.
