same way in which millions upon millions of Americans were tricked into taking out ARM's (Adjustable Rate Mortgages) and Interest Only Mortgages in the USA.

Was it a submachine gun, long knife, semi-automatic, rocket launcher, hand grenade???
How does this dealership or any dealership "make you" do anything? If you didn't like the idea of writing post dated checks (and you shouldn't), then you simply don't do it! How hard is that to understand? Secondly, if you even need to consider writing post dated checks, did it ever occur to you maybe you can't afford the car???
Whatever gave you the idea this dealership, or any other, is a charity? They are in business to make money, to turn a profit! There's nothing illegal, immoral or unethical about making a profit. There's nothing illegal, immoral or unethical about a sales person doing their job. Just like there's nothing wrong with your doctor doing his/her job.
In the final analysis, YOU participated in this STUPID scheme of writing post dated checks. YOU failed to make the deposit to cover YOUR bad check. YOU had to forfeit the car because of YOUR actions. YOU attempted to enter into a transaction which YOU could not afford because YOU failed to consider YOUR financial condition before YOU decided YOU "just had to have this car"!
