By Design Lofgren Design Lied about delivery, failed to refund money, still no product or refund Salt Lake City, Utah
I bought a dining room table displayed in the By Design showroom for $426.33 on July 13, 2009. I was told they were out of stock but that a shipment would arrive in about a month from Norway. I paid for the table in full.
About a month later, I contacted the store about the table and was told it was still en route, and that it would arrive in "about two weeks." I began calling every couple of weeks for updates about the table delivery. I was told either that the table shipment was still enroute, or that it had arrived but was "being detained in customs." I was told to wait and the table would arrive "in about two weeks."
Finally, I called and accused them of lying about the shipment being held up in customs for months and asked for a full refund. They agreed to issue an immediate and full refund AND promised to call me when the tables did arrive. They said they would hold one for me, and that I could pay for it when they delivered it or when I picked it up.
It has now been four months and ten days and I have not heard one single word from the company By Design (Lofgren's Design) nor have they refunded my money. They refused to sell me the showroom model because they said they keep it on the floor to "pre-sell" tables - yeah, right. They "pre-sell" tables alright - and then they never deliver the tables and they keep the money. What a racket. I will never shop there again.
I have now complained to the Division of Consumer Protection, the Better Business Bureau and am writing as many online reviews of the company as I can. In the digital age, you would think businesses would go out of their way to keep their commitments and treat their customers well. I guess not. I'll keep you posted.
