Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?
My fiance received a phone call at work from a Nick Michaud from Cambece Law office. He said that we had a credit card from 2003 that we owed $3000 on. When my fiance tried to explain to him that he didn't know what he was talking about, Mr. Michaud called him a liar and told him that he owed the money and he had until 5pm to call back and take care of it.

My fiance called me at work and asked me to look into this, as Mr. Michaud brought my name up as well. I called Mr. Michaud and told him who I was and why I was calling. He told me that he could not talk to me about the account without my fiance's approval and all he had to do was call him back. I told him that he would not be calling him and that he, Mr. Michaud, brought my name into this. Of course, being the typical 'bill collector' he got all John Wayne tough guy on me, being rude and talking over me.

After I got nowhere with Mr. Michaud, my fiance had documents faxed over to this so-called law firm, informing them to cease calling him on the phone. I faxed the documents since I work at an office.

Mr. Michaud then CALLED ME AT WORK after he received the faxed documents, admitting he did receive them, demanding to know what law firm was handling the case for my fiance and asking me if I 'advised' him on how to handle this. For a person who wasn't at liberty to discuss anything with me, he sure was willing then! He broke the law by calling me at work, first because he admitted receiving the fax and second because I am not listed as party to this so-called debt.

Most importantly, we still have no clue as to what this debt even is, we know it isn't ours, but of course these 'bad asses' aren't going to hear that, they want to bully you into paying something you don't owe or don't want to follow the letter of the law by providing the information of the so-called debt.

I laugh when I read the posts of those who work there, saying calls are monitored by attorneys. LOL! This is not a 'law office', this is a debt collector. We owe no debt with this company, it would have showed up on our credit report we just had done last month.

To those of you who have dealt with this company, or might in the future, don't do it. Hang up. Take their fax number and fax them a copy of a letter demanding they cease from calling you. Don't let them bully you. We sure aren't!

I'll give an update if needed, our attorney is very interested in looking at this case.

We received a letter from Cambece Law Office in the mail regarding this debt. After doing some checking, we found out this debt does NOT belong to us. It belongs to my fiance's EX WIFE! LOL! We spoke to our attorney and we are seriously considering filing civil action against this company. I think it's time that companies such as this are brought to light. I may have to call in some favors at the local tv stations and ask them to make sure it airs in the market for Peabody, MA! Now that would be good. Regardless, this just goes to show that the "collection agency" is NOT always right, and there are mistakes out there. Someone on this board commented on another post about this firm and said "maybe if you paid your bills this wouldn't happen". To that person, it does happen. We pay our bills and luckily we keep good records. That is what saved us. I will give another update when I hear more. I can't wait to hear what the response from the "law firm" (LOL!) is going to be.
