Brian and April are two of four persons employed by Capitol Acquisitions attempting to collect a debt from my mother who never had an account with the company in the first place. They refused to send any written information about the claimed account, only stating that the account had been closed in 1993 with a balance owing that was never paid. The amount requested was in excess of 2300.00 dollars, but they would "settle" for 667.00. They also stated that several letters had been sent to the address, but of course no such mail was ever received. I have spoken with Citibank, they have no record of my mother ever being a creditor with them, and the credit reports I have obtained go all the way back 45 years, with no account for Citibank showing anywhere.

I have reported the telephone calls to the local police in Van Nuys, and was informed that, given certain circumstances, the behavior of these people might be felonious and therefore proscecutable. I have obtained information regarding recent acitions against CAMCO Capitol Acquisitions, and plan to file complaints with the Attorney General for both California and Illinois, as well as the Federal Trade Commission, and the Attorney General for the USA. If anyone has been treated to interaction with these cretins, or you know of anyone who has been similarly victimized, please put it in writing, call the police and report the action, and write to the Attorney General so that legal action may be taken against them. Under no circumstances should anyone give them money, either by check or bank draft, nor should they go along with requests to pay off any claimed balances. They cannot ruin your credit, they cannot put a lien on property, or anything else that they may threaten. Don't keep it to yourself, either -tell your family and friends that you are a current target for this scam, and have them help you write letters also. Be pro-active for yourself - get a copy of your credit report, look it over, and assure yourself that the information is correct and timely. When these clowns try to scam you, you'll be clear about your true situation, and therefore not so likely to be a victim due to fear or lack of information.

Susan, well, you can be assured that camco will not be able to supply any info regarding your grandmothers -supposed- account. hopefully, you can let her know about the FTC's ruling (its posted on their website) so she won't worry about it. and if they call again, her best choice would be hanging up the phone. i have a similar situation in that camco was calling my mother who's in her 80's too - regarding my stale debt. and camco's contact info is even older than my debt - i haven't lived at "home" since i was in my 20's & i'm 51 now. but thankfully mom uses an answering machine so she never had to deal with these bottom feeders. then they started calling me at work - but i just hang up on 'em. sorry ikea charles hope you didn't talk to yourself too long when i put you on hold.

CAMCO has bitten off more than they can chew. I was cussed at by RUTH of CAMCO, for not paying on a debt that was settled in court in 1992. So, in my spare time (to date) I have emailed every Attorney General, all Letter to the Editors of every newspaper in California and Illinois, all radio and TV stations in California and Illinois, each state Representatives, and for good measures, I am mailing a courtesy copy to CAMCO with a little reminder note that I am pissed. I also file a complaint with the Federal Trade Commission for each phone call I receive. I love bringing negative publicity to those that deserve it. Happy holidays CAMCO.

Response to John about little old lady not being so sweet

Dear John, I am interested that you would waste your time on this matter. I am the granddaughter of the sweet little old lady that Camco is trying to scam. First point taken, the reference to credit going back 45 years is that all three credit reporting agencies show her credit dating back to that time, as shown on recently obtained credit reports. None show any bad credit or any reference to Citibank. My grandmother does not, nor has she ever, had a Citibank card. We find it quite interesting that there is no reference to any type of collection agency ever having contacted her or placing a negative rating on her credit report. As far as your third point goes, yes, we would love to see what charges there have been, however, Camco has refused to produce even one shred of evidence that she ever had this account in the first place. That's what our concern is, that someone calls up my 82 year grandmother out of the blue and starts demanding money from her, saying she had this account for which she has no recolletion. I assume it's probably Camco's tactic to scare the elderly since they sometimes have difficulty remembering and perhaps Camco thinks that they can con them into giving them money they don't owe. I assure you that if Camco were to provide documentation of said account and said monies were truly owed that the debt would be paid, if it were valid, which it is not. It's not people not paying their bills that makes us all pay higher interest rates, it's the greed of corporate america that charges outrageous fees and interest in the first place. Why don't you get a life and a real job and learn a better way to be a member of society instead of being someone who goes around bullying people and scaring them. I assume that if you are really interested in helping people such as yourself who "pay higher interest rates" because of other peoples shortcomings or unfortunate circumstances that perhaps you would find a different line of work where you could help people instead of trying to rip them off.

John... The reason you have to pay higher interest rates isn't because of other people not paying their bills, it is because SCUMCO only pays you minimum wage and only have a 2nd grade education. Perhaps if you get yourself a real job, even working out of Jack in the Box, and get at least a high school education you can get a decent interest rate on your secured Visa card. By the way, picking on old ladies will only get your throat slashed... That is how most pigs like yourself die!!

John, can't help but think that you are one of the scum from CAMCO, Portfolio, Calvary or any of the assumed names this crap scam outfit goes by. Anyone who has ever had dealings with CAMCO could, in anyway, be positive. So I think you MUST be one of the scumsuckers..... no other answer. Hey, if you're so proud of your credit and you're gonna brag about, how about giving me your SS# and I'll run a check on ya better yet, give me your full name and birthdate - I'll really run a full check on you; criminal background check, ac, ni, maybe a little surveillance to see just what you really do with your day....like maybe going to work for CAMCO!!! Come on stand up - finally be a man....

For starters, I know for a fact that you do not have copies of credit bureaus going back some 45 years. It's impossible since 2 of the 3 credit bureaus have only been in existance since the mid 70's. Second point is that Citibank will not have ANY records of this persons debt since under the privacy act they are not allowed to have even this persons name on file. See, once this "sweet little old lady" quit paying her bill, Citibank sent her complete file to an outside agency to collect. After an averge of 6 months with no payments, Citibank will sell the account and ALL information in hopes to ease some of costs of having a DEBTOR on their books. Citibank is the CREDITOR not the person that you write about. The 3rd point is that maybe you would like to know what charges were made with this credit card. Open your most recent statement from your credit card company, and even with todays technology they do not itemize what was purchased. Only the dollar amount will show at a location that your credit card was used. This little old lady should be ashamed of herself for bringing you into HER situation. It's people like her that cause me to have to pay a larger interest on my credit card. And yes, all of my bills are paid on time!
