Camco keeps harassing me to pay a bill from a company I have never heard of or dealt with ever. They use vulgar language and will not give me any information other than I owe some amount. They also are using a name I had (married) over 15 years ago.

A man first called and became abusive verbally when I asked him for information about the so called bill. I keep hanging up because I have asked them to stop calling me since they will not send me any information. They are now using a woman to call me and ask for my social security number.

I am 75 years old and crippled. It is hard for me to try to get to the phone and I am asked them to quit calling because the information they talk about is false. I have never had a credit card with the name they give me and I have never owed anyone for a credit card.

I am concerned about identity theft since they have so much information about me.

Is there anything I can do to stop them. My blood pressure goes off the charts when they call with their harassment and fraudulent claims.

Ruby, Please, do not let these scums from sCAMCO get to you. Whether a relative or a friend obtained your SS info, you are not liable for this. There is something called the statute of limitations. It ran out a long time ago. Get an answering machine or voice mail. Let them rant on there and you can just erase the call. You do not have to listen at all. Or better yet, just call the phone company and have them take care of this by putting a thing on your line that blocks their number like we block telemarketer calls. They bought these debts for next to nothing and all the money that they collect is 100% profit for them. They do not care who they get money from or how.

A few weeks ago I got to listen in on a Camco conversation. I also taped the sucker and mailed it to the leading attorney for the illinois attorney generals office. Anyway, the idiot collector had no clue what the debt was for. Firstly, he gave about 5 different types of debt it could be. He also gave 4 different dates the debt occured ranging over a span of 10 years. He gave states where this person supposedly lived but had never even visited much less lived at. He and his 'supervisor' lackey also broke about a dozen fdcpa violations and they are all on tape and in the hands of the illinois AG. Enjoy camco.

I noticed that John is responding to all of the (s)Camco posts in the same manner. Should we tell him that with all of the information now available to consumers via the Internet (and especilly rip-off report), it may just be a matter of time before this "collection agency" is no longer in business? People are learning all about their rights and where to report (s)Camco's illegal activities. It's just a matter of time. John should start looking for a real job.

Are you a sCAMCO employee? Once again, a pond scum sCAMCO employee rises from the muck in a puny attempt to defend the indefensible. There's about 2 years worth of complaints filed here, with the Illinois State Attorney General, with the FTC, etc. If the sCAMCO employee already has the social security number, why are they asking again? To confirm who's on the line? I doubt it. There have been too many instances in which sCAMCO has shown complete disregard for accuracy. You're looking for another victim. If sCAMCO is so honest, why was the company fined by the federal government for statutory violations? There have been many instances reported in which sCAMCO has verbally abused and threatened people they call which is most definitely illegal. How dare you accuse someone of being a deadbeat and not paying their bills when sCAMCO indulges in patently illegal practices daily? You have absolutely no idea if this lady is being called on a legitimate debt. sCAMCO is required to prove the validity of the debt, not harass people into paying just because some bottom-feeder calls and says to pay them. Get real.

Yeah John... Camco doesn't break laws; they go by the book, right? http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0223222/040324cag0223222.pdf That's why they were nailed for $300K by the FTC, right? That's why everyone on this board is getting calls from the FTC for their experiences with SCAMCO, right? The FTC wants to give SCAMCO an award for abusing 75-year-old women and others, right? Sure... They follow every law to the T, correct? Ruby, have fun with these losers, it is scammers like these that make the FTC so busy working over time to make examples out of them for others to be forewarned of what is to come. They CAN'T DO ANYTHING to you, what so ever... If they could, don't you think they would have taken you to court yet? Read the decree, they are helpless to get anywhere, file a police report and file a complaint with to phone company and call the police every time they call, you can even have your phone tapped for evidence purposes. The government works so, but when they hit, they will hit with both fist. John, I hope you get swept up with your other fellow criminals... Picking on our elderly makes you feel like a real man, huh? Why don't you losers continue to attempt to harass me? Come on now; if you are so tuff let's play... Name and city are below; sure you can figure it out... Even with your limited elementary education

There is a fraud here to be sure of that, it's not Camco

#11UPDATE EX-employee responds

Fri, September 24, 2004

Ruby, think real hard now! Camco doesn't ask for your social security # they are asking you to verify the ss# that they have on file. Camco does not allow their collectors to have an account with no ss#, to avoid possible litigation. The collector that has been calling you knows that you are the DEBTOR. There is no such activity as consumer fraud going on here, the only fraud that is being done is that Ruby wants to be uncooperative rather than help herself through this tough situation. Fraud usually occures from somebody you know, so who did you give your information to in the first place? I'm going to guess that Camco has nearly every address that you have lived at since this bill went unpaid. Why? Because your information, including your ss#, has been verified year after year in attempts to collect a bill that wasn't paid. Ruby, let's face a fact here. This bill probably went unpaid because of possible helth problems when you were using this line of credit. That is why I asked you to think real hard. Most people that didn't pay these bills went through some kind of life changing event like a loss of job, divorce or a serious medical condition. Who wants to stir up bad memories? But you need to pay this bill Ruby.

CAMCO has followed me through my first years in college, 2 marraiges, 2 divorces and they are still right on my tail every day. I have been called in the past year at least 15 times a day to where I have changed my answering machine to not accept messages anymore. The credit card debt is "said to be" from 1989-1990. WOW that was a long time ago, and I have asked for proof, they have none, no documentation, no name of the actual bank that the credit card was issued from. I have been called every name in the book and told what a loser I was etc..... I wish these people would go away, I will not settle for 8 cents let alone 800.00 when they make it sound oh so good since "I owe them" 4,000.00 since they do "have my name and social security number". Somebody please shut these people down. They tried to get my checking acct info, BUT, "I HUNG UP ON THEM"

Unfortunately for them, no court would ever find in their favor

#14Consumer Suggestion

Anyone can sue for anything, for instance you can sue them for the abuse they have unlawfully subjected you too. Unfortunately for them, no court would ever find in their favor. That is why they are so abusive in the first place, because that is their only option: manhandle you until you break and pay up. Here is the link to CAMCO's which the Government (FTC) fined CAMCO $300,000 for doing just what they are doing to you now. http://www.ftc.gov/os/caselist/0223222/040324cag0223222.pdf You can also file your complaint with the FTC at http://www.ftc.gov . This way they will be able to add you to the long list of victims that will be able to assist in their execution = ) Have fun with these losers; there isn't a thing they can do to you. No one keeps records that long, not even the IRS, that's why there is a Statute of Limitations, and that is why the courts wouldn't even waste time listening to these scammers, and why they have to abuse those who they feel is a victim that they can victimize. Besides, they wouldn't expose themselves to you counter suing them for the harassment they have subjected you too. (If you do sue them, be sure to bring the FTC's Decree that will slam dunk them into the waste basket) They sent me a letter, I was more than they could chew and they never ever made a second attempt to contact me again. They knew I was very very serious and had the determination to drive them 6 feet under. For example, they contacted me in January and never contacted me thereafter, yet here I am snapping at their throats... They are only fortunate I can't stand at your side as well... Like Japanese General Yamamoto said after attacking Pearl Harbor, "I fear we have awoken a sleeping giant." That is only the tip of the Ice Berg.

#15Consumer Suggestion

Mon, September 13, 2004

Ruby, I am Sorry to here about your experiences debt collectors, you have rights as a consumer, learn them. You are correct about not giving your social security number out if this is a legit account they will already have this information on file, would they not? I recommend that you should do the following the next time they call and remember as mean as they get you should keep your calm. Have them send you a copy of there Records Showing This Debt. 1. Keep a log of every time they call you. Listing time and Date, Person who called. 2. If possible record this conversation. 3. Report this to local Police Dept. 4. Obtain a copy of your credit Report. 5. Send a Certified Cease & desist letter 6. There is also a Statute of Limitations for Debt Collections. When ever a collection agency or attorney takes over a new account they are required by law to notify you in writing that they are attempting to collect the debt. Within that letter there will be a paragraph that notifies you that you have the legal right to challenge the validity of the debt. If you do challenge the validity of the debt all collection activity must cease until the debt has been proven valid. Unfortunately you can still be sued at any point. CLICK here to see why Rip-off Report, as a matter of policy, deleted either a phone number, link or e-mail address from this Report. Beware of many credit repair scams out there good luck.

#16Consumer Suggestion

Sun, September 12, 2004

Ruby... I wish there was a way for me to contact you... I would love to be able to take this over for you and protect you from these thugs... This is what makes me very very upset, how they are getting away with this and act like pitbulls even on the elderly that are on a limited income and many that have lost loved ones that took care of the bills and would pay this not knowing if it wasn't legit or not. Please call your local police or sheriff department and tell them that you want to file a harassment complaint and let them know how they are treating you and be sure to mention the foul language they are using. To get their attention, tell them you are being terriorized by these events, which you are. Another possibility would be to contact your local media and tell them what is happening to you. Two final suggestions would be to get an answering machine to screen your calls. If I had access to sending you one, I would. Please hang in there... The only other option I can suggest is to change your phone number. Please remember, these loosers are just full of hot air and are to weak to ever show their faces in person. Keep to your guns and don't give them any information, what-so-ever, they are scamming you and one day they will get theirs. God Bless You!!
