I had surgery in July and was unable to work. Then in August my husband passed away at the age of 50. Because of the financial state I was in, I contracted with Campos Chartered Law firm to do debt consolidation for me. they have taken $595.00 per month since then from my bank account and have not contacted one of my creditors. As a result of this, my credit has gone down hill. I have been charged, late fees, over the limit fees and recently have been getting letters from collection agencies. No one at all has heard from this company. Every time I have called them, I am on the phone for a minimum of 30- 60 minutes and am getting no where. I cancellde

I DO CREDIT COUNSELING HERE IN AZ & I SEE THIS A LOT! I ALSO SAW IT A LOT WHEN I WAS A COLLECTOR. THESE PLACES RARELY MAKE CONTACT WITH THE CREDITORS. THEY EITHER SEND A TAKE IT OR LEAVE IT PROPOSAL OR JUST START MAILING THE AMOUNT THAT THEY CHOOSE. THERE ARE SOME OUT THERE THAT ARE VERY GOOD, BUT THEY ARE FEW AND FAR BETWEEN. WHAT I DO WITH MY CLIENTS, IS HELP THEM SET UP A BUDGET THAT THEY CAN LIVE WITH & I CONTACT THEIR CREDITORS WITH THEM IN THE ROOM OR ON 3 WAY & NEGOTIATE A PAYENT PLAN WITH EACH CREDITOR. I THEN DO A SPREAD SHEET FOR THEM WITH THE AGREED AMOUNTS & DUE DATES. IF AT ALL POSSIBLE, I HAVE THEM OPEN A SPECIAL CHECKING OR MONEYMARKET ACCT TO MAKE THE PAYMENTS VIA AUTOMATIC DRAFTS ON THE DUE DATES. THAT WAY, YOU KNOW THE PAYMENTS ARE BEING MADE ONTIME & YOU DRAW THE INTEREST. ALSO BY SETTING UP A SPECIAL ACCT, IF THERE IS A PROBLEM, IT WONT EFFECT YOUR HOUSEHOLD BILLS. CHECK WITH SOME CHURCHES & BBB IN YOUR AREA & SEE IF THERE ARE ANY COUNSELORS THAT CAN HELP YOU DO THESE THINGS. IF YOU HAVE ANY FAMILY OR FRIENDS THAT ARE AN ATTORNEY OF ANY KIND, THEY CAN HELP YOU NEGOTIATE WITH THE CREDITORS AS THAT PART IS NOT AS DIFFICULT AS IT MAY SEEM. DEPENDING ON HOW BAD THINGS ARE, YOU MAY CONSIDER CHAPTER 13. GOOD LUCK PLEASE POST UPDATES.
