We absolutely fell in love with the Birch Canadel table that we purchased two years ago.  We took immaculate care of it including applying expensive wood oil regularly.  But, we were quite surprised at how eaily that table scratched as the the finish was not cured.  One year after purchase, the finish on the table began to crack and peel.  We spoke with the store who sold us tehtable.  The store said that the finish had a lifetime warranty and that they would contact the company. The company refused to accept any responsibility and suggested that we used harsh cleaning products.  We did not use anything a moist soft rag and wood oil.  Although the table design is beautiful, we will never purchase another Canadel product.  For the price, we could have purchased so many other better tables.

Instead of pissing and moaning about it, you can refinish the table yourself. It doesnt take much effort. You can look it up online. All you need to do is sand the top untill the finish is removed and then apply the coat YOU wish on it. And let me be the first to tell you that EVEN water can ruin a finish. Water is one of the most caustic substances on the planet. It ATE the Grand Canyon, so you can then see why water does this. By its nature water is not a neutral substance. Even a small bit of water from say a cup without a coaster will RUIN a finish.

The job itself takes no real time to complete. A few brushes a drop cloth and a sander is all you should need. You may find that woodworking is an enjoyable pastime. There is nothing like taking a POS piece of wood and turning it into a masterpiece.

And after two years of use one can expect that the table is going to be a bit scratched up and dinged. I cant understand WHY they refuse to do the finish on the table other then you just dont qualify for it under the terms of the lifetime warrenty. And the terms is ALL they get to go by, they CANNOT just deny a claim because they choose not to do the job. There has to be a reason or they may face litigaction at a later date. You may wish to have them send you a copy of EXACTLY what the terms are for the lifetime warrenty. If you used ANYTHING other then the recomended cleaning solution, you will invalidate the warrenty. This is not REALLy your fault, but when it comes to warrenty work, every company is going to make sure that you qualify for it. No company WANTS to do FREE WORK. And given the American Consumers ability to lie their way into getting what they want, EVERY business is going to make sure THEY are not spending money that they should not have to. So get that information so you will be better armed.
