We have had an account with Capital One for years.  After being contacted by Pimsleur with a $9.99 trial offer at a discounted price, we decided to take a look.  After receiving the product, we decided it was not as advertised and was not for us.

We contacted Pimsleur and informed them we wanted to return the product.  They sent us a return label, which we used, and returned the free trial package.  We then received a credit on our credit card.

The following month, we were charged $64.00!  We contacted both Pimsleur and Capital One.  We were credited by Capital One that month, but the charges continued every month.  Capital One states they have 6 or 7 pages provided by Pimsleur proving they have the right to charge our card every month, possibly for an eternity, for something we don't even have.

We are VERY disappointed in Capital One.  Where is the customer support/services?  We tried to cancel our card, but they stated they can't do that because Pimsleur has a right to continue charging our card every month.  The only way to cancel is to pay the credit card off in full.

Know we are presented with the problem of trying to borrow money to pay the credit card off in full, as soon as possible, so we are not continually being charged $64.00/month!  Absurd!

You should have a couple of different options to resolve the problem. First, you can submit a WRITTEN termination of authorization to Capital One for the recurring billing from Pimsleur. That should end future charges. You also need send a formal dispute in writing to Capital One (there is a time limit that varies by issuer, so you may not be able to dispute ALL the charges). If you've already gone this route or it doesn't work, another option is to call Capital One and report the card as lost. They will close the current account # and issue a new one. What ever you do, don't give Pimsleur your new account number. Also, when you call Capital One don't call the regular customer service number. Use 800-427-9458 (fraud department) or 800-625-7866 (Account Specialist) or 877-513-9959 (Account Retention). The first 2 are the ones you really want to talk to, but you can use the 3rd number to get to them if you can't reach the first 2 directly and it will connect you to an actual AMERICAN representative. If you get a new account #, make sure you change any other recurring payments you have set up.

If I read what you wrote correctly, you are having a problem with Capital One because they continue to let a charge go thru and you can't close the card because you have a balance.

Why not get a NEW credit card with a different company. Many companies are offering low cost balance transfers. Transfer the balance onto your new card then close it.  Problem solved in the short term!

IMO your real issue is with the software company. They may or may no go away after you do this, but at least they won't be able to charge THAT card.
