I have had a Capital One Visa for a couple of years. I have never gone over the limit, I have never disputed a charge, I have never made a late payment. Minimum payment is $10/month. I pay $50-$100 every month, way in advance of due date. They sent me an offer of a platinum card for a one time fee of $39. However, they neglected to give me any info on the new card, so I called the 800 number to ask. Nothing but a recording that would accept and activate the card. So, I emailed them, asked for information. They emailed back another 800 number to call, which I did. Another recording that had no options whatsoever pertaining to my questions, so I just punched in a number, hoping to get an operator/rep. Guess what, recording tells me my request for a credit increase (which I didn't ask for)is denied, and will be reported to credit reporting agency. That's what you get for paying on time!!!

Sorry but I have capital one. I like them. they will treat you great as long as you are responsable, and pay your bill on time. they try to help you rebuild your credit through financial management and that means allways paying on time and not going over your limit. Otherwise you become a risk and yes you will pay for that.

While I cannot speak for Providian Financial (NH) I can comment on my experiences with Capital One Bank (VA). I have been a customer with Capital One since 1/1998 and I have had no problems whatsoever. I started out with a college student MasterCard at 19.8% fixed APR and a $300.00 credit line. In April 1999 I received a credit limit increase to $1000.00 and they LOWERED my interest rate to 13.9% fixed, November 1999 they again increased my credit line to $2250.00. Feburary 2000 they upgraded my card to Gold and November 2000 my credit line was increased to $3700.00 and my interest rate was lowered again to 10.9% fixed for purchases/cash advance and balance transfers. June 2001 my credit line increased to $5700.00. All of this has taken place without my asking, Capital One recognized my efforts to build my credit and they rewarded me for it. If you pay your bill on time with Captial One they reward you. I have had no late payments (my statement closing date is the 14th of the month, I receive my bill by the 20-21st and it isnt due until the following 14th) Capital One gives card holders plenty of time to pay their bill and I love them.
