Purchased a 2007 BMW 335i (E92) from Carmax in the month of October 2013.  Upon purchasing this vehicle there were some issue with the audio system that they agreed to fix.  Basically issue with the pixel display on radio.  I was okay with this issue especially since they were going fix and did.

What i was not aware of on this vehicle was the preexisting issues such as brakes and oil leaking from oil filter housing.  A couple days after purchasing this vehicle I noticed oil drops on my garage floor.  Notice the oil was coming from the top of motor near oil filter housing.  Brought the vehicle back to Carmax a couple day later still within their timeframe for issues and concerns.  They simply wiped oil off housing and returned car to me.  Which of course did not fix the issue.  More oil drops were on my garage floor within the next couple days.  Took car back for the same end result.

I became really concerned at this time especially since this vehicle shouldn’t leak oil at all.  So I scheduled an appointment at the local BMW dealership.  Took car in for inspection and found out Carmax also brought this vehicle in for oil leak issues.  Which show on BMW records and on paperwork I received.  I had BMW perform the service and repairs for the oil leak which I had to pay a $300 deductible because I have MaxCare through Carmax.  This issue would have been taken care of prior if one Carmax would have repaired vehicle before offering to public(ME) or disclosed issues at hand(oil leak).

Also around the same time as oil leak there were also brake issues.  Go figure the brake issue was also a preexisting problem that Carmax opted out of having BMW repair and fix.  I let Carmax know of this issue at hand with brakes and brake warning light.  Nothing was done so I made an appointment with BMW for servicing in which i found out the brake issue was preexisting from Carmax.  They informed me back brake were not properly installed and aftermarket parts were used instead of OEM.  Carmax brought this vehicle in with brake concerns and replaced them with their parts which did not meet BMW specifications and where not properly calibrated.

After BMW reset brake warning light and tried fixing sensor which was not properly installed.  Advised me brakes, rotors, and sensors needed to be replaced.  After the fifth time of bringing my vehicle back to BMW and reviewing records that showed this issue stemmed from Carmax lack of repair.  I approached Carmax with BMW service records and proof that they did not evaluate this vehicle before offering to public. BMW was going to charge me nearly $2000.00 to fix this issue which was the breaking point for me.  Realizing I the purchaser bought a vehicle in good faith from a dealership that had a no haggle policy since they thoroughly check over vehicle and offer them at what appeared to be a satisfactory rate.  I find it hard to swallow the fact that they deceived me boldly.

When I approached Carmax with all these fact of preexisting issues through BMW records, they reviewed my paper work and records from BMW which clearly show they were in possession of this vehicle during those service/advise & check dates.  My first offer stated I no longer wanted vehicle due to the fact I was not disclosed of all problems with car.  I asked for them to either put me in another vehicle (inspected) of same value or to take back the car.  Carmax declined offer.  Instead they offered to fix issues at their location using BMW findings and suggestion of repair procedures or they would buy vehicle back and a low ball offer, which would leave me rally up-side down in my vehicle loan.

With no other choice I had to let them fix brake issue, at the same time they refunded me the $300.00 deductible through MaxCare in which I paid to BMW for preexisting oil issue.   Made an appointment to bring vehicle in for repairs a week later in which they forgot about.   After a week in a half of fixing this issue I got my vehicle back.  I was told they replaced everything that was suggested (rear brakes, rotors, sensors, and calibrating system) and used supposedly OEM parts which I hardly believe since they didn’t want an authorized BMW dealership to perform service.

The brake warning light is back on so tomorrow the I am taking my vehicle back to BMW for diagnose of issue.  I already know what the problem is, especially since Carmax does not have available to them the calibration machinery that BMW vehicles need after brake replacement. This will now be the sixth time I've been back to BMW for brake issues due to preexisting issues at hand. At this point since now this has become a nightmare for a car brand that I have owned other models previously and enjoyed.  I now am going to pursue possibly legal action against Carmax I have no other choice.  I feel victimized from this car dealership and have heard other have too.

I feel your pain, i bought a 03 325i from Carmax in 2012 and have had to have over $9000.00 in repairs done to my car.So much for the so called inspection! Thankfully the BMW dealer has always repaired my car correctly the first time so i never need to return. I had to have the front stuts replaced at CarMax in 2012 however they replaced them with cheap parts so i need to have them replaced again including the rear shocks due to them being original. This will all be out of pocket this time

and costing over $600.00. CarMax billed my warranty $140.00 per side the first time for cheap non OEM parts. I could go on and on. One thing i will say is I Will Never Buy Another BMW from CarMax again, they do not have a clue regarding the repairs on these high end cars and should not sell them period. Always take your car to the BMW dealer or a BMW repair facility. Also Carmax attempted three times to repair my electrical wiring/ taillights however they FAILED to check for a recall, my car could have caught fire.
