Please do not do business with CarMax. Here is why:

Last year, I bought a 2006 XL F-150 from them for $18,995. It was a great truck, and I got good use out of it. I am in the military and I had to go overseas, which only left me with the option of to sell the truck back to CarMax.

They only offered me $14,000 for the truck because it was an XL model and not an XLT. (XLT's are more expensive). I was a little mad with the low offer but had no choice, so I sold it to them.

I went online 2 weeks later to find the truck listed online as an XLT model for the same price I originally bought it from them!

I sent them a respectful email letting them know that I thought it was wrong of them to do this. I got no response, and to make things even worse, because I told other people the truth about the truck, CarMax has blocked my IP address so I cant even view their website.

I was not rude, I did not use vulgar language, and I didn't direct any frustration out on anyone.

I feel like I am being "hushed" and swept away.

I bought a vehicle from them once before about 4 years ago and I planned on doing business with them when I got back to the U.S.

Not anymore!

The OP's main beef is that the truck is being advertised as an XLT after he was told that it was an XL, and therefore given less money for it. When he brought it to their attention, they ignored him. Yes, he was miffed about the loss of 4K, but that's a normal hit after 1 year, unless they were lying to you about the value, which I assume you checked out before you went down there. Not knowing the options you have, the truck is worth between 13 and 16K for a normally-optioned 06 F150 XL.

The way Carmax works is that every vehicle regardless of age and miles is put through the inspection process. When you buy a car, any car, carmax or not they typical minimum difference between what carmax sells a car for and what we would buy it for is about $4-5k. Oh look that matches what you said. The reason being is they have to put it in the shop and the vehicle must go through an inspection. It sounds like you did have it for a little while and Carmax is giving you the wholesale value on the vehicle, not retail. You should not have expected to get $17 for the vehicle because it still has to go through cleaning and inspection. Additionally, i would not be suprised if the vehice you sold was not the one you saw. on other words a vehicle that matches yours, but was not the same. it takes Carmax minimum 6 days to get a vehicle on the front lot....inspections etc that the vehicles go through before they are possibly approved for the lot. I had a situation where a customer called and asked me the same question. I checked the vehicle in question and it was not the same one, however identical. Lastly I do want to point out that Carmax is careful about vehicle pricing because sometimes the market shifts as it has for the 2007 season and everyone is dumping 8 cyl. vehicles. they arent being purchased. so they sit and most likely Carmax will have to look at the retail prices and transfer some vehicles to other lots and on some take a loss and lower the cost. It's not an exact science, but be assured you did get good offer on the vehicle. I understand it didn;t cover negative equity, butyou did get a good offer and if you questioned it you should have spoken to a buyer manager and they would be happy to explain it to you. You also forgot to post the appraisal comments so no one knows anything other than what you bought and sold it for. Carmax also is very cautious that if you have a Carmax vehicle and it has any problems that you get them fixed before selling because they appraise it as it sits. You my friend were not ripped off. you just were not happy wih how the market sits for your vehicle.

Now how long and how many miles you put on the truck since you've owned it does factor in how much you get back, carmax is known for giving good money on vehicles that are sold back as well. If you bought the extended warranties also would have made the total higher and also the condition of it when it was sold back. Now as far as the other model truck, its another year older of course it cant be much higher, im not exactly familiar with the options the 2 trucks have in difference but thats usually how it goes. If you were making payments then also the fact that you always pay more interest on a loan in the beginning rather than the end. I find it suprising they blocked your I.P. address.
