Carmax of Plano sold me a 2007 MINI that we ultimately discovered had: 1. been sold and returned within a 5 day grace period, 2. had almost 3000 additional miles put on the car within the time period, 3. did not do a re-inspection (that famous inspection they advertise is done only the first time they turn the car, if then!) 4. had been used as a loaner or program car by members of the Plano Carmax team. And all the above was lied about as I specifically questioned if: 1. the car had been used by any one at any time as a program car, 2. the car was ever taken home by people at the dealer, 3. the car had only one owner.  I was promised a report repeatedly, but the salesman (Rick Shelton?) kept saying that something was wrong, so he would mail one.  (Of course, that never happened.)

Less than 6 months after buying, my son was fortunately not killed in a catastophic mechanical failure involving a flywheel breaking, clutch locking,  brakes locking up, and car freezing in 2nd gear!  After managing to kill the engine and get in a safe place, he called Carmax of Arlington and was told "do not bring the car here, we can not fix; take to the BMW dealership". So, he did. And the service department tried to work with Maxcare to make repairs . . until Maxcare would not send "an inspector" and kept delaying the repairs - even though a rental car bill was accruing daily!  Finally, after 21 days of delay tactics through Maxcare and 21 days of rental car bills on a driver under 25 - my son picked up his "new" car. Maxcare refused to pay for the flywheel and clutch (saying that driver skills caused failure) and paid only for the broken drive chain and 7 days of rental!!! Without a doubt, this has been the biggest financial fiasco I have experienced in some time! And Carmax corporate response - they only decided to pay a portion of the costs when they realized -- wait for it --- they inadvertently gave me all the financial info on the former owner and that is how I found out how much they had lied when I was buying the  car!  Let's talk all levels of malfeasance and corruptness!
