Centurylink is a monoploy in our rural area. There is no other company that offers local phone service. So, I feel as if I am writing on behalf my entire location! It all started when we decided to bundle our services. We were to recieve local phone service with unlimited, area wide long distance services along with every option you can recieve on a home phone. Also, per the "Bundle" was high speed internet and satellite service through Dish Network. This was to be $99 per month. Our bill was NEVER $99, not once ! Furthermore, the bill kept climbing, slowly, until it was $206 as of Dec. 2009. Remember, we have UNLIMITED everything! No extra long distance, no charges for any extras! We ordered exactly 4 movies off of our satellite since we got it, and this should be the ONLY variable on our bill! However, it has continually crept higher and higher. Why? No one seems to know at CentuyLink!
On Jan. 10th 2010 we finally had to go on what they call a payment plan. I was on the phone for over an hour changing my entire plan and setting up the new "payment plan" payments. I was to pay $92 by the 12th and my next bill ( $100 plus extra $89) was due on Feb. 8th. I was told that my discounts would go back on my bill, ( and to call back in one year to put them back on) and that my new bill would be $20 for phone $10 for internet and $70 for satellite. Finally, $100 a month right? Wrong! On Feb. 3rd my satellite service was cut off due to nonpayment. Remember, I just went over all this and made a payment on the 12th of Jan. I called and they immediately told me ther must have been a "glitch in the system" and tuned it back on. Now what happened there? They also told me that since I had changed my plan on the 12th, (remember it was the 10th) that I owed $189 for this months bill plus the extra $89 per the payment plan. This is because my bill is due on the tenth and it says that I made the payment plan on the 12th. Wrong! Thus I would pay for my old plan ANOTHER month! What? Im supposed to be on a new plan already. They even told me that I've racked up $6 worth of long distance charges. So, how am I being charged for the new long distance plan when I am still paying for Unlimited long distance? I changed my plan on the 10th of Jan. !!!!!! I spoke to 7 different reps from the company and none of them ever really resolve my questions and I am stuck paying $271.00 for this month.
So, to recap. I change my plan from $200 to $100. I go on the payment plan, (extra $100 per month) three weeks later my service is disconnected, reconnected and I owe for my old plan instead of the new AND the extra long distance charges I owe for the plan that Im not even on ! The company also lied and said that I didn't change the plan until after the due date so they could charge me for the old plan again! What a Rip Off !!
P.S. I spoke to 7 different representatives and each one was consistantly rude and unhelpful ! I think they're rude to people who have payment plans! I was told that, " you're getting a pretty good deal for what you've got." I told her that there were plenty of companies that only charge $100 per month for the same plan and she said, "I dont know what you're talking about." I told her to go to Verizon.com, ATT.com or Comcast.com and check out their deals! In fact, I have a cellular contract with Verizon and my local rep tells me that I am crazy for staying with this company! If all doesnt pan out, I will take my business elsewhere! Even if it means just using my cell as a home phone! I am sick of being over-charged !

I used to work for Centurytel a few years back and I absolutely hated it. I live in Texas and had to take calls from different areas. Not too big of a deal but different areas call for different prices.
The data that shows on the computer is so confusing. I am a computer expert and after training, I still didn't understand how they billed the customers! When a customer would call, it was impossible to track extra expenses, almost as if hidden fees were being added on the paper bill but no where on the computer was there proof.
The closest I came to figuring it out was they sale you bundles at low prices but do not tell you that in 6 months or a year, the price will go up.
My last straw was the sales pitch! Customers calling in because of overcharging or payment plans (due to Centurytels issues) and I was required to try and sell them a phone or internet service. Are they serious!
Best bet is to use cell phone. We only have Centurylink here, no other options, so I choose T-mobile over them!
P.S. Even after I quit, I still couldn't read my bill....shouldn't it be simple?
