Paid Certified Irs Solutions $3,240 which they assured me they could fix my tax debt to all I would have to pay was $500. This was stated to me by Spence Carlson. Assured me they would not quit until I was satisified and not indebted to the IRS. After a lengthly 16 months they finally filed a Offer In Compromise with the IRS.

When we received letters from the IRS asking for more information twice, it took numerous phone calls, faxes and e-mails before getting any response. On the last request we had 30 days to get back in touch with the IRS before they closed the case. Repeatedly called, faxed and e-mailed IRS Solutions begging them to contact the IRS. No contact was made and the IRS closed our case, put a judgement and lein against me and now want the money.

During the time the company had my case there were at least 3 different people that worked on the case and every time you called it was like they had to read the information sent previously and start over in what needed to be done. Once I received the first request from the IRS after the Offer in Compromise they repeatedly stated I should just call the IRS and set up payments.

When I last talked with Spence Carlson on 6-27-08 he told me to call the IRS and set up payments. Told him they had dropped the ball on what they assurred me they would do and I expected them to help me get this settled. He stated after I talked with the IRS after the week of 7-4-08 to get back in touch and they would help me. It took until 7-22-08 for the local IRS office to get the information from the Offer in Compromise and call me back.

Upon calling Certified IRS Solutions and getting a busy signal I checked their web site and found the message not in business. What recourse do I have to try to collect my money. The reason the IRS closed the case was that they did not receive the requested information from Certified IRS Solutions in the time frame they set up. The money I paid Certified IRS Solutions could help paying the tax debt.

This website indicates that the http://www.wefixirs.com URL is owned by or associated with Certified IRS Solutions. It is not. We own the URL. We are not and have never been affiliated in any way with Certified IRS Solutions or any owner or other person who worked for Certified IRS Solutions. Our internet research discloses that Certified IRS Solutions was a business that drew consumer complaints and it went out of business many years ago.

Our company is Empowered Tax LLC. We help taxpayers with IRS and state tax problems. This includes helping with IRS tax debts, IRS audits, tax advice and tax returns. We have an enviable track record of success in the business. This is due to our values and our years of experience.

Very few tax pros can claim to have even a fraction of our experience. Our founder is a former IRS attorney and IRS appeals officer. He has successfully defended IRS audits for several Fortune 500 companies in which the IRS was considering several billion dollars in tax adjustments. He lead a tax controversy team for a boutique tax consulting firm whose clients were being scrutinized by the IRS. He has also helped clients with IRS problems while at a Big Four accounting firm.

We leverage this experience and bring it to bear in resolving tax matters for our clients. We would like to do the same for you. Please contact us at (832) 915 -1040 to see if we can help resolve your tax problems.

I can speak from the inside on this fact - I am an IRS licensed Enrolled Agent and I used to work with one of them. That company (there are ROR's about it but I will not name it) routinely overpromised and overcharged. The main problem in that industry is that the salespeople have little knowledge about what it takes to get an Offer in Compromise approved - they are simply told "promise them resolution and get a credit card number." I stopped my affiliation with the tax settlement company almost three years ago. Any cases in my inventory at that time I handled to completion (even though I didn't get paid for them). I just finished the last case last week. My suggestion to the Poster is to seek out an Enrolled Agent, CPA or Tax Attorney in your area who specializes in IRS Problem resolution. Do not choose a Tax Problem Resolution company based on television advertising - they will all look good there, whether it's someone yelling "twenty dollars!!!" or some British actor in a courtroom babbling on about your tax issues or Mr Harris himself - they all work off the same business model. I do accept clients from out of my area, but it is more difficult in communication and getting documents back and forth. My fee for an OIC is $3500 flat for an Individual Offer and $750 additional for "Related" offers or complications, such as business ownership or nonobligated spouses. The Tax Settlement companies will charge whatever they think they can get you to pay - I have seen fees as high as $10,000!!! The poster still needs help with the tax issues, but reputable help. The American Society of Tax Problem Solvers (astps dot org) would be a good place to start looking. Another would be the National Association of Enrolled Agents (naea dot org). Don't let anyone tell you they have a high acceptance rate for OIC's. IRS admits they accept about 3% of OIC's submitted. Anyone with an acceptance rate of 30% is at ten times the IRS acceptance rate and is going good. Mine is 50% but that's because I pre-screen clients and will not accept a client unless I am reasonably convinced the Offer will succeed. Even then I am obviously wrong half the time. If the poster would like to communicate with me about this, go to stop-irs dot com which is my web site. Steven Katz EA Vail AZ Member ASTPS, NAEA, NATP

Response to CIS closing

#7Consumer Suggestion

Sun, August 10, 2008

We were surprised, recently, to find that Certified IRS Solutions (CIS) had closed its doors and gone out of business. The only reason we knew was because a former client of Certified IRS Solutions came to our office for help to resolve their IRS tax matter and told us to check Ripoff Report. That person had a letter, or rather a posting, to a website advising all clients of Certified IRS Solutions, they had gone out of business and would not longer be dealing with their tax matters. At this point, we can only hope those who see this posting will contact us to give us an opportunity to help them end their IRS nightmare. We stand ready to serve those who will give us the chance. Even though, we do not have their CIS file, there are ways to find out the status of a case with IRS. We have experienced this before in the mid 90's when a CPA Firm closed its doors and left its employees unpaid and its clients in a lurch. However, in that case the CPA notified us and in one weekend we received file cabinets full of client files in progress. It took a great deal of time, almost two months, to contact all those clients and have them come into the office and meet with us to determine what progress had been made on their case and what needed to be done to see the matter to conclusion. We met with clients everyday, 12 hours a day, for approximately two months. Understandably, people were mad at having paid money and gotten nothing done by the CPA, but we were able to get past that. They were able to obtain the necessary funds for us to continue the work that the CPA had not done and see the IRS problem matter to ultimate resolution. Since we have done this before, we are quite certain that we can help those former clients of Certified IRS Solutions. For tax practitioners who have not done this before, it might seem overwhelming to pick up a case in the middle and know what has happened in the past and know what needs to be done in the future to bring the matter to a successful close. Because we have done this before, and, therefore, have experience, its not so overwhelming and we welcome the opportunity. We realize that former clients of Certified IRS Solutions feel that they have been burned and would certainly want to check out anyone they deal with in the future. We welcome that scrutiny. The President and CEO of Redd & Greaves, P.C. has been representing taxpayers in tax controversy matters for 30 years. In that period of time hundreds of clients have been served and the BBB record for Redd & Greaves, P.C. shows only one complaint. The one person who filed a complaint with BBB has also posted a complaint at this website, Ripoff Report. In thirty years of practice, one person retained us with every intention of allowing us to complete the work and then sue us for a refund of his retainer by claiming he never signed the engagement agreement and never intended to do so. However, we think our record of thirty years with one complaint speaks for itself. We are proud of that record. If the former clients of Certified IRS Solutions can find one BBB compliant within acceptable limits, we welcome you to contact us for an opportunity to discuss your IRS problems in a no obligation meeting or telephone conference. We are licensed to represent taxpayers in every state in the U.S.A., so no matter where you are we can help. There is life after the IRS and we would like to help you get there. We have many satisfied clients that are sleeping well at night because their IRS matters are behind them. Sincerely, ((REDACTED NAME OF THIS AUTHORS BUSINESS))

An Enrolled Agent can still work on your case under a Kovel Agreement with an attorney. If that had been done, you would not have lost any ground or money.

Filing Anything Against These Folks Is A Waste of Time and Money

For all of the reasons Don said - it's useless to go after these guys. In order to prove fraud, you have to prove intentional deceit by the company. The OP's own post indicated they pursued the matter and eventually got the "Offer of Compromise" done. It's not like they took his money and did nothing - that's what other companies who scam you will do. If they followed through on the matter, it isn't willfull deceit. You may not receive what was expected for the money paid, but that's a perception issue, not a legal one, and therefore not actionable. Dealing with the IRS is not an easy matter and engaging a company that promises anything for a sum of money should have been a red flag to the consumer in the first place. Engaging an attorney who specializes in IRS dealings would have been a better move; that way if there is a case filed by the IRS - your attorney can't testify against you in court, whereas these guys (if subpoenaed) would have to. It may cost more, but what value has been received to date? Little.

Is Don an Owner of Certified IRS Solutions?

#13Consumer Suggestion

Sat, August 09, 2008

"Don" keeps posting and slamming the employees of the defunct Certified IRS Solutions outfit. They may have dropped the ball on some work but from what I see on the net, they were overloaded by the fast pitch sales team of Spencer Carlson, Pete Revnor, and Dan Lott (those names have come up quite a bit). Most of these "tax resolution" outfits do the same thing. They prey on people's fears and tell them what they want to hear "I'll settle your case for $500." They overload the staff with more work than can be handled. Look at the JK Harris complaints on this site, same story. Don says there is nothing you can do and says not to sue the company but to go after the ex-employees. He also says firing one's entire staff with no warning and having a guard is normal. Very funny. He talks about ex-employees trying to get money, I have not seen that once on ROR. They suggest filing a complaint with your credit card or bank. No money in it for them. Sounds like a good idea to me. Give your bank the facts: company shuts down in early June, fires staff and runs charges on customer acoounts in both June and July. Sounds like fraud to me. Chances are you will get some of your money back (probably only the last 90 days worth of charges). File a complaint with the Texas AG, the DA in the county they operated in, and write your Congressman about passing a law to require companies like this to have to post some kind of bond before they can operate or be owned by a licensed person, not a con man. That might protect consumers. As mad as people seem to be over this, violence is not the answer; maybe just maybe somebody in authority will look into this deal. Whats done is done, and the cats behind this thing (maybe even Don?)will likely just cash out with no penalty. But don't give up, take action with your bank and credit card companies at the very least. File a fraud claim with them! I'm sure "Don" will post saying that is a bad idea....

this is my point again about the employees not getting the work done and making mistakes. they act like they are innocent but they made mistakes that should have been avoided. you ask what are our options? i talked to a lawyer and he read over the agreement we signed. if the company were still in business you could try and arbitrate. the problem is even if you get a judgment against this company its a huge waste of your time because they don't have any assets and its a corporation which means you cant touch the owners personal assets. honestly the best thing to do is move on and do research on every company you do business with. check the rip off report and bbb although i did that and this company was pretty clean at the time. ive gone over every option and i have decided to work with the irs on my own account. you could try and get a hold of your representative and ask them to complete the work complete but this is most likely a dead end as well. be careful who you listen to here on rip off report as well. it could be an ex employee trying to scam you into giving them money or pointing you in the wrong direction. hope this helps good luck.
