On September 14, 2004, my wife made an online purchase from Chadwick's and paid for it with her MasterCard. On the same date, Chadwick's and its bank, World Financial Network Nation Bank (WFNNB) made an inquiry on her credit report. When she learned about it and complained about the unauthorized credit inquiry to Chadwick's, she received an email from Mary Szachowicz of Chadwick's Executive Communications that said, in part:

"Our research indicates that the order you placed on September 14, 2004 is the date you applied for our pre-approved credit card on the Internet. The Internet does request that if you are interested in a credit card to fill-out information such as your social security number, your birthdate and requests a credit card number."

That is absolutely false! She did not apply for a card and Chadwick's knows she didn't. Thankfully, we have keyloggers on our computer and can show, keystroke for keystroke, that she did NOT apply for a credit card and that, therefore, Chadwick's and WFFNB were in the wrong.

We started to complain to the Better Business Bureau but decided that it would be useless. You see, Chadwick's holds place # 7 of the Better Business Bureau's "Top 10 Complained About Businesses in the Past 12 Months". Their parent company, Redcats USA, holds the number 3 spot on the same list. (See at http://www.bosbbb.org/news/complaints_top_10.asp)

So it is already patently obvious that Chadwick's and Redcats USA and WFNNB are not really into the "customer service" concept and that adding one more complaint to the mountain of complaints would serve little purpose.

Anyway, do business with Chadwick's at your own risk. A simple order can turn into a credit inquiry on YOUR credit report and put YOUR private credit information into incompetent and uncaring hands.

Chadwick's and WFFNB must comply with the applicable portions of the Fair Credit Reporting Act and E-Sign Act and provide proof that my wife applied for credit. Either that, or admit they lied from the beginning about this fiasco.

Unless Chadwick's quickly takes affirmative steps to resolve this matter in a meaningful and good-faith manner, this will almost certainly end up in federal court for litigation.

This time, Chadwicks, you have messed with someone who knows the law, knows how you violated it, and is ready to pursue the matter if the proper resolution is not quickly forthcoming.

Like the person mentioned in the original complaint, I have also been a victim of Chadwick's unethical charging practices. In my case, however, after I had paid off the entire amount on my Chadwick's account, I discovered an unauthorized third party charge for $19.95.  When I inquired about it, I was given a phone number and told that I would have to deal with the third party. This raised alarm bells but I called because I wanted it resolved.

Well, the company I spoke to has absolutely no record of me or my credit card number or ever having placed the charge on my account! So, I called Chadwick's back and explained the situation to them.

Chadwick's continues to maintain that they have no way of reversing the charge on a credit card issued BY THEM, and they absolutely refuse to reverse the unauthorized charge.

I DID report them to the BBB, however, clearly this isn't going to have much impact.
