As I was exiting the property on August 11, 2013, I was stopped by a women obviously in distress. Because of the distraction, I did not realize that the truck bed (Nissan Frontier) was not clear of the gate. The gate closed on the fender and hit hard enough to break the chain on the gate.
The photocell system that should have prevented the gate from closing when obstructed was improperly installed and did not detect that the truck was blocking the path. This is a serious safety deficiency and can result in additional property damage and injury.
Chapel Hill Self Storage Centre, managed by Summit Management, has turned the issue over to Minico Insurance of Phoenix, AZ. They are denying any liabilty on behalf of Summit Management because the truck damage repair bill was approx. $1300.
These people are in the business of providing a secure and safe facility. They have failed in respect to being safe and now they do not want to accept responsibility. Now I am driving a truck that was damaged by a malfunction of their equipment on their property. It is just not right.
