On 11/09/09, I came home from work to find I had received an unsolicited loan remodification packet in the mail from Chase Mortgage Finance LLC.  This package included a letter thanking me for having contacted HOPE NOW and provided a plethora of paperwork I was to file in order to obtain said modification and foreclosure prevention.

I was alarmed when I reviewed this letter as I had NEVER requested any such mortgage modification, and am current on my home loan.

Given the above, I immediately contacted the number listed on the letter to obtain further information about how they had come to contact me regarding loan modification and foreclosure assistance. The young woman answering the phone informed me that as per their records, Money Management, International, a partner agency of HOPE NOW had initiated this request on my behalf. She sounded bored and unconcerned when I expressed my fears about the possible illegal use of my personal information to initiate said loan modification and stated Well just put a note in your file stating you dont need it.  She did however, insist that I had to have called for CHASE to have opened this file on my behalf.  She refused to consider that neither I nor my husband had contacted ANY entity for loan modification and foreclosure prevention.

I immediately contacted HOPE NOW and Money Management International, which had NO file on me regarding a request for loan modification with CHASE.

My concerns are the following:   1.) someone out there has my personal information and submitted a loan remodification request on my behalf, 2.) Chase is not concerned about this at all and had no information to give me 3.) HOPE NOW claims that THEY don't have any claim for me on file, 4.) Money Management claims they have no information and nothing filed under my name, address or phone number.

Given the recent history in the news with banking institution, and the general bad public relations that CHASE bank has, several thoughts came to mind. I wondered if CHASE had some sort of scam and CHASE needed the program fees so badly they are having third parties solicit deals.

I spent the larger part of my evening yesterday making being transferred from department to department within CHASE. Not ONE of CHASEs phone operators addressed my concerns, their attitudes varied from indifferent to blatantly rude. Don from the Loss Mitigation Dept. told me Im not having this conversation with you and I dont have anything to say to you, your account is up to date. I dont know how you were referred to us and I dont have anything else to tell you. Every single one of your employees insisted that I HAD to have called HOPE NOW for CHASE to have opened this file on my behalf.  One operator did admit that CHASE routinely sent out thousands of these letters. Another denied this but refused to give me any information about what could have occurred. Lastly, I had an operator tell me that Someone had tracked down what went wrong and it was a keying error on our part and they left you a message on your voicemail. Interestingly, no such voicemail existed.

Not one of the CHASE employees that I spoke with was helpful, offered to research my situation further or get back to me. I was dismissed outright, placed on hold for over 20 minutes at a time, phone calls were dropped, and transfers to another extension were mysteriously cut off.

I realize that this lack of customer service on the part of lower level employees is a reflection of the banking industries general lack of concern for their customers and their attitude that they are above everyone else. I get that this is reflected in the way that bankers do business and that there is no regulation or oversight to monitor the banks activities.

I suspect based on the above that CHASE is attempting to troll for foreclosures
