I was reading some of the complaints against Chase and most to be in accordance with their business practices. I also am amused at the "holier than thou" responses. Just wait their time is coming.

I am the receipient of Chase's "gas company" mentality. I had a card I seldom used and after 4 hurricanes and $30,000.00 in deductibles my 2 heat pumps were damaged and needed to be replaced. Nobody held benefits for us to receive help as FEMA sure didn't. I used one of the checks Bank 1 (before the dreaded Chase name) had sent me at a fixed percent of 2.99 for the life of the purchase.

They waited 3 months until after the check had been used and I noticed my percent rates had been raised on the Regular purchases from 10.49 to 19.49 and my check used had gone up the same amount. I contacted Chase and was told I was wrong, the check was for a 3 month period and the amount $4,000.00) was too high a percentage of my credit limit so they were upping the percentage rate to 19.49.

After questioning the rep. on the validity of this I was told that a lot of people had much higher rates so I should just be happy with mine.

I called corporate and finally got a hold of a nice lady that claimed she would research what was going on. I've never been late as it is on automatic pay, nor have I on my other card through Bank America (great company). I did receive a letter and was informed I was right and my account would be adjusted. It was for exactly 1 month. I went right back to fighting them but to no avail as that lady didn't work at corporate any longer. God forbid they have honest people there.

I finally closed the account. They have continually changed my account since then. They are still on auto pay where I was paying $50.00 over my minimum payment. They are steadily trying to bridge that gap.

I don't think I'm being targeted, I just believe it is part of a growing epidemic in the financial market to put it to the consumer in any way possible.

I have great credit. I'm never late as everything is on auto-pay and my one mistake was going with a unscrupless company, trusting they would honor the contract originally entered into. I have every slip of paper ever sent me my them and not once was I notified of a rate increase or the reason for such. They claim but can't prove anything was sent. It's just a stock answer that puts everyone involved at a stalemate.

Be careful in getting anything except a major purchase on credit. They don't have to honor your agreement and can change it at will whether it was included in the original agreement or not. They are the ones that can make your life miserable through inaccurate information sent to the credit reporting agencies that have the ethics of flatworms.

Lisa, I had a very similar experience with Chase bank a couple of years ago. They offered me a 2.99% rate for the life of the loan, but after 6 months the rate went up. I called the "service" help number and was told "No, we don't offer those rates for the life of the loan". I still had the offer in my file which I faxed to them to prove that they had indeed made such an offer. No response. At all. Fortunately the balance of the loan by then was small and I was able to pay off the balance immediately. I then sent them their card (in 14 small pieces) along with a nice letter explaining that I only do business with reputable companies, and that they weren't among that group. My only suggestion for anyone considering applying for a Chase credit card is DON'T DO IT! Even after several years, they are still doing a bait and switch tactic, and are still getting away with it.
