I inadvertantly wrote some checks that caused me about $58.00 in overdraft charges. One check was issued to "The Store" for $10.00 and it was not honored by my bank and was sent to CheckRite of Montana. Upon receiving a notice from CheckRite, that my check had been turned over for collection, I contacted the owner of "The Store" and paid him the $10.00 in cash. He contacted CheckRite, as he explained to me, in time to cancel the collection process.
CheckRite continues to bill me for a $30.00 charge for their services. After several calls from them, I told them that the payment had been made to "The Store" and that the debt was paid, and that any further attempts to collect their fee was pointless. At that time, they ran the bounced check through again, that was made payable to "The Store" and cashed it themselves, applying it to my bill of $30.00. They continue to bill me for the remaining $20.00. They claim, that I didn't call them back in time. Althought, they claim no illegality in the matter, they did cash a check that was made out to another company. I have never had a check turned over for collection, in my life. CheckRite has lots business and doesn't need mine. If they do this to me, imagine the damage they are causing to others.
