We bought a 50" Rear Projection Samsung DLP on April 7, 2005. We purchased a 1 year protection plan for it. Every year before the warranty was up, I would purchase another year. I thought I was doing the right thing keeping it covered.

My protection plan ran from 4/8/06-4/8/07 4/8/07/4/8/08

Besides the lamp burning out every now & then, the ballast had to be replaced on 2/21/07. (1rst major repair.) Lamps don't count as major repairs.

On September 20, 2007, light engine had to be replaced. (2nd major repair) Lamp was replaced as well.

On February 4th, light engine failed again. The part had to be ordered. Two weeks later, the Tech showed up and wanted to pull the part to send it out and have it repaired because the part is no longer available. That would also leave me without a Tv. I said no way.

I started reading my protection plan and read about the "NO Lemon Guarantee" I felt I qualified since this is my 3rd major repair. Ha!

After many calls and complaining to CC customer service, they connected me to a case manager, Veronica. She took all my info down and told me I qualified and she would get back to me. I know sooner hung up the phone when she called me back to tell me I DID NOT qualify. Even though no time had ever lapsed for coverage. The 1rst major repair was 2/21/07 and my new policy started 4/7/07. I missed it by a month.

The other two fall into this warranty period 4/7/07-4/7/08. But now I need a 3rd major repair before the 8th of next month. The next warranty period wipes out the previous 2 repairs and I start all over again.

Isn't a warranty a warranty? I'm paying every year to keep my TV covered and for what. It was a waste of money. After telling Veronica that was bull she put me through to Corporate offices. I spoke to Katharine who took all my onfo again. This was 2/29/08. I told her I could not find anything about the warranty period. She was going to find out from the Warranty Dept and get back to me on Monday.

Yep, you guessed it, She never called. I have called her all week all hours of day and night. Also I have called Veronica (case manager.) No one has called back. I left messages for them both, telling them about filing this report, filing a report with the Ma state cosumers affair, also the business bureau and last but not least filing for legal action.

While typing out this report, I received a call from a very rude lady from Corporate. I told her I had been dealing with Katharine and she had never heard of her. She said I did not qualify. One repair did not happen within the contract year. I asked her where in the policy does it state that? She said visit A circuit city store and ask someone there.

I paid from year to year for the contract because why would I want to buy a 3 year contract for $552.99 on a tv that has been a lemon since day 1. I didn't even like paying a year.

I am sitting here with a broken tv that won't even turn on. Like alot of you, I have purchased thousands of dollars worth of products from Circuit City and will NEVER again step into their store. I am going to make sure everyone I know aware of their warranty scam. I'm also going to call my local TV channel's to get it out there. I am in the market for a couple of Blu rays and a GPS. I'm going to Tweeter. DON'T SHOP AT CIRCUIT CITY!!!!

Kathy, I invite you to read my complaint (Vince, Charlotte ,NC) on this site. Yours sounds a lot like mine. I've spent thousands at CC and they won't even honor thier warranty. My tv has had 4 repairs and they keep trying to give me different excuses why they can't replace my tv. I'm so pissed right now. I'm so sick of explaining my situation to each different person I get on the phone at CC. I'm to the point I'm going to make a huge sign and stand in front of CC telling people the truth about thier crappy warranties and service. Good luck with your tv.

bbaris hmmmmmm, actually you are incorrect. The No Lemon Guarantee applies to the term of the contract. I would of qualified if the 1rst major repair happened within the same period that the other 2 major repairs had. I was buying the plan from year to year. The latter two repairs were within one year of the protection plan. The 1rst was under a previous protection plan. Circuit City confirmed I would of been eligible if all 3 happened under the same protection plan. Read #15 in the Circuuit City Advantage Protection Plan terms & conditions. Circuit City is STILL a RIP OFF! No one from Corporate or any other employee can show me where it states in the terms & conditions that the repairs have to be under the same contact period. If you keep the contract up year to year, the TV should be covered. Why would anyone want to spend almost $600.00 for a 3 yr. plan on a lemon of a tv? By the way, the light engine finally got replaced after leaving me w/o a TV for a month and it still takes forever to turn on. I have to reboot it. I cancelled my 1 year contact with circuit city. I will not get this tv fixed again. I will shop elsewhere for a new one. Anyone out there looking to purchase any new electronic, DON'T go to Circuit City. If you don't believe me, read the other reports about Circuit City!

actually, the lemon guarantee only applies within the first year of purchase and in your case would have ended in 4.06 .... =[

Issues with Circuit City, their scam of a warranty and their lemon of a television

#8Author of original report

Sun, March 23, 2008

03/23/08 Circuit City Tech came out February 27th and took the light engine out of the television. He sent it out to be rebuilt. I got a call from Circuit City to tell me the Tech should have the part by March 24th. He is supposed to install the rebuilt part on March 26th. It has been 1 month without a TV. Circuit City did not offer me a Rental after telling me they would. I cancelled my 1 year extended warranty that would go into effect April 8th. I am not going to give Circuit City another penny. The slate gets wiped clean ant the 3 major repairs don't count because all the repairs have to happen under the same warranty term. It's still the same TV that have had all of these repairs. It's crazy. No One from Circuit City ever got back to me telling me where it says in the terms & conditions of the policy that the repairs have to happen all within the current warranty period.
