I applied for a Cisco Systems data entry/clerical position through Craigslist. I received an email with further interview questions. Later that week I received a congratulatory email saying I got the job and that in order to do the required work I needed virus and security software that they would pay for. They sent me a cashiers check for 3,965$ and told me to cash it and subtract 865$ for computer software and initial signing pay and send the remaining 3,100 to a warehouse that was responsible for sending me the computer I would use.

The scam works by having me cash the check. Once I sent off the money and the bank finally figures out its a bogus check the money is then deducted from my account. Basically, I'd be out 3,100 dollars. Be very careful about data entry jobs via the internet. Some of them are real, but the ones that are fake can be cleverly disquised.
