Just stop for gas at this gas station Citgo in 2300 E Irlo Bronson Hwy because they are advertising lower gas price if you paid cash.  I payed inside with my debit card (which is considered as cash) and when I went back to put the gas on my car I noticed the price was marked as credit (which is higher).  Went back inside and asked the cashier, he stated " ahh yes they are working on fix that", but there's no sign anywhere mention that so call action that they're taken to fix that.  Ripoff or not.

Just because your Debit Card is tied to your checking account, that does not mean it is the same as Cash.

If they run your Debit Card as "Credit" it goes through the same authorization as a Credit Card except that the money comes out of your Checking Account.

Now, if you did a PIN Based transaction, that is generally(but not always) considered Cash as it goes through a different authorization.  The downside of this is that very often there are additional fees associated with a PIN Based transaction that would often negate any discounts you may get.

To put this in perspective.  $20 probably got you about 8 gallons, even at a $0.10/gallon discount you would have saved an entire $0.80.  In other words while every bit helps, sometimes the reality just makes it not even worth while trying to spend the time to hunt down these type of discounts.

So for future reference, unless you are handing the cashier cold hard cash, you need to ask them if using your debit card(PIN Based) qualifies for the Cash Discount.

Merchants are charged transaction fees for debit and credit cards; therefore, debit cards are not considered the same as cash.

Sometimes we dismiss what our common sense is telling us because WE are either too busy or WE think we know better. I would suggest to you that in the future YOU use ONLY ATMs tied DIRECTLY to the bank of the debit card YOU wish to use. See until the THIRD PARTY that controls AND maintains the ATMs comes out and does a hard count, THEY wont be sure that the information YOU are giving is actually correct. YOU will just have to WAIT!!!! Its an ATM error and NOT a deliberate attempt to rip YOU off. One would think that as an adult YOU would understand that LIFE doesn't work at the speed we would like it to. Which means that YOU HAVE TO WAIT!!!!!! Once an investigation and a count is done they will see for themselves that YOU are correct. YOU STILL HAVE TO WAIT!!!!! Yes it hurts BUT its not ANYONES FAULT!!!!! Its a computer error and nothing more. People like yourself WANTED hands off no human contact businesses. This is what happens when YOU count on computers. Its OBVIOUSLY not making YOUR life easier. YOU HAVE TO WAIT AND THAT IS ALL!!!! Don't you think YOU might want to WAIT until you ACTUALLY get ripped off BEFORE you go making trouble for them AND yourself? If they chose to THEY could get a court order and PROVE that YOU wrote this. And if they can do even basic math, THEY can put two plus two together and just drag their feet to the legal extent of the time frame THEY have to get your money back to you. Just saying maybe keep your trap shut online until you have PROOF that they intentionally ripped you off. Otherwise all you are doing is making yourself look foolish BECAUSE you didn't get your way IMMEDIATLY!!
