Please don't blame the country's largest financial services corporation for the fact that you didn't choose to buy payment protection insurance on your home. I see this happen every day. We let the customer know that optional payment protection insurance is available, and it is the customer's choice to buy it. Some people never need it, but when they do need it, and didn't purchase it, all of a sudden it's our fault. Because we supposedly didn't offer it. Why wouldn't we? Besides that, you stated that your house burnt down... that's homeowner's insurance, not mortgage insurance, and you did have homeowner's insurance. The "mortgage insurance" you referred to only covers life, disabilty, and involuntary unemployment. As sad as it is, what banks are looking at is the fact that should an emergency arise, and in your case, it did, you do not have adequate savings to continue to make your house payment. This is why you cannot get a loan. And it was a stupid mistake that your husband was supposedly reported as dead. CitiFinancial could not/would not do that. Have you requested a copy of the credit report? The fraud alert is very simple and can be cleared with a phone call. Call Equifax at (800) 685-1111. Best of luck to ya.
