It was announced in today's newspapers that the City of Mesa will appeal the half million dollar judgement, on the grounds that in the past negligence and gross incompetence have not been traditional grounds for false arrest judgements. On councilman remarked that such a precedent was "like throwing out 200 years of law"... It may or may not fly. But what matters is simple: fraudulent police and the departments which encourage or nurture or even tolerate them have to be smashed down hard. Most likely, in a fairer venue, the settlement would have been many millions, for this level of lies, fraud, criminal harassment, and incompetence. Funny how other workers wind up taking the gaff for minor infractions, but these fools never seem to have to pay.
