Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

My daughter is a 19-year old college student. Her shuttle bus failed to pick her up to get her to the airport to come home for Christmas.  She called the City Taxi in Orem, Utah after finding their website on the internet.  The website stated that for a flat rate of $65.00 she could get taxi service from Provo, Utah to the Salt Lake City airport.

The taxi came and picked her up.  Just before arriving at the airport, the taxi driver, named Armando, told her that the price would be $85.00.  She reminded him that the website advertised the flat rate of $65.00.  He replied that the website was old and that price had not been valid since 2005!

My daughter texted me in a panic since she did not have that much money and wondered if she should use her debit card.  I asked for the name of the company and promptly looked them up on the internet.  I made a phone call to the number advertised.  A man answered the phone and I proceeded to tell him what was happening.

Imagine my surprise and concern when he said HE had my daughter in the car with him, and that he in fact was the "boss" of this company.  I was very clear when I told him how dishonest this practice was, and how I was going to report him to the the BBB and anyone else I could find.  I am certain that he regularly intimidates and rips off college students in similar situations.  He shouted at me and said the $20 wasn't worth being called dishonest!  What amount would be worth being called dishonest??

I am thankful to say he actually dropped her off at the airport and didn't boot her out on the side of the road.  She was hearing this entire conversation while sitting in the passenger seat.  She paid him the $65 and exited the car.  He told her not to call him again for a ride!

Paralegal?

The term "bait and switch" refers to a company advertising one price for a service and then attempting to charge another more expensive price for a service.  As a paralegal you should know that.   As a matter of fact, I do work full time as a registered nurse in a large city hospital.  I'm not sure how you concluded from my letter that I never worked, that I needed psychological help, or that my daughter was a  spoiled piece of work.  She is simply trying to survive as a college student more than 1000 miles away from home with a very limited budget.

This was a dishonest act and the gentleman I spoke to called me later on the phone to apologize.  He knew that his advertised price was $20 less than his actual charging price, and he also admitted that he did not tell my daughter this when she called for a ride to the airport.  He may not have done this on purpose, but when she told him the charge was advertised at a different price, he should have honored that price and not pressed her for the extra $20.00.

The fact that he first insisted on the money, and then after I spoke with him he angrily said he did not want the $20, makes me think he in fact was caught in an act of dishonesty.   Would you be OK with someone doing that to you or a member of your family?  Probably not.  Many people have difficult jobs, but that doesn't make it OK to be dishonest.

You sound like an angry person and I am sorry that you decided to vent your anger this way.  You could have just said that your experiences with City Taxi were favorable.  You missed the entire point of my complaint.  One charge was advertised and another more expensive charge was attempted to collect.  This is wrong no matter how you look at it.  The owner of City Taxi simply needed to change the price advertised on his website.

Again, if you really are a paralegal,  you should know how important it is to carefully understand the facts about a situation before you get yourself in such a lather and make statements that are not pertinent to that particular situation.  It makes you look foolish, uneducated, and a bit unstable.  You did not do City Taxi any favors by your posting.

i have used City Taxi for the last year and have never been more satisfied with a type of service I've received. The lady above who claims that this is a bait-and-switch clearly has no idea what that even means. I would imagine she's probably never worked a day in her own life. It sounds like her daughters a little spoiled little piece of work too. I consistently use City Taxi every day for rides to many of different places the company is always on time and very affordable and realistic. I always arrive safely to my destination and the vehicles are clean and well taken care of. If she was so worried about how her daughter was going to get to the airport then she should have got her lazy a** down to Utah and drove her there herself. I believe this lady has nothing better in her life than to try to make other people just as miserable as she is and I can tell you one thing if I owned this company I surely wouldn't want that type of woman calling my company. I do believe the lady might need psychological help and I know that they have medication out there that would make her life a little bit better so she wouldn't feel the need to find any little thing to b**** about. I wish I would've been driving the cab that day cuz that lady surely would have got a piece of my mind. People like this deserve to have the bad karma that's coming their way. Although I have never been a taxi cab driver I work as a paralegal I can imagine their job is difficult and she should be grateful that her daughter arrived to the airport on time and was able to catchrher flight so maybe instead of finding things to b**** about she should find things to be grateful for. A little gratitude goes a long way.

Sorry you feel that way.

The price quoted to your daughter was $85 , due to the extreme weather conditions. and We used not our normal taxi but an 4 by 4  SUV  .

Normally in the same circumstances and SUV would cost more than $150.

In a good faith gesture and to retain the customer we only charged her $65.

We are priced cheaper than the competition.

I GUESS IT IS IMPOSSIBLE TO PLEASE EVERY ONE, NO MATTER HOW MUCH BACKWARDS YOU BENT.
