I ordered a health/diet book from a website. When I got my credit card statement, I noticed that I had been charged more than what I should have for the book, plus I was charged an additional $39.00.

I tried to call the number on the bill, but only got an automated message telling me to go to their webiste. On their website I found an invoice for $55.95 (the charge for the book should have been $40.00). I cannot find any information on their site about the additional $39.00 charge. After reading all the other claims on other site, I see that this is a common practice for this bank and I'm sure that I've been ripped off as well.

The problem is that when you order, you don't know that the company you order from is going through CLK Bank, so there is no way to check on them to see if they are legitimate. Any company who uses their service is just as much to blame as the this "bank" is. They allow their customers to fall into a trap and as such are just as guilty as the bank who "serves" them.

First, your complaint should be 100% against the company that sold you the book. Certainly they must disclose somewhere regarding all charges when ordering, or they can be charged with fraud among other things.

Second, you should post the website where you ordered this book from. Some of us are pretty savvy here and will find things you may have overlooked. Once exposed, this can help other consumers to avoid the same fate..as well as help you to realize what these charges are for and where they were posted on the site if this is the case.

Additionally, in many cases due to complaints on this site and the exposure, customers have received refunds or some recourse, and companies have changed their websites to allow for better disclosure. Without knowing this website..the complaint is against some bank that apparently charged you for something....but it had to be authorized by someone. And that someone is the responsible party. Either that, or this bank conducted outright theft and fraud. It can only be concluded and dealt with if we know about this website.

You may want to try to dispute this or have the charges reversed though your credit card. Have you contacted them yet? Most likely they will investigate this charge if you dispute it and possibly reverse the charges via a charge back...unless they determine that you authorized the charge. Then it comes back down to determining what if any deceptions the website used to hide these charges from consumers.
