I highly doubt that Collette Thone does genetic screening on her sires and dames. 6 years ago I purchased a beautiful 4-month old Pomeranian puppy from her for $1200 ($1000 for the dog, $200 to ship him to me in CA). My teacup puppy was diagnosed with a liver shunt at 6 months of age--not a normal thing for a 6 month old puppy to have. I contact Collette about this, since it was in my sale contract that she would cover any genetic or congential diseases, but my call was never returned, and I paid out of pocket for a bettery of tests on my young pup. Fast forward 4 years and my 4 and a half year old Pommie is showing signs of Cushing's--typically characterized as an older dog's disease. I would be willing to say the Cushing's was just a stroke of unfortunate luck, but then 2 weeks ago, my now 6 1/2 year old dog had to have his spleen removed, something that is definitely an older dog ailment. I work for a vet, and have for 4 years, and worked at another vet across the country for 2 years prior to my current employment, and never have I seen a dog younger than 10 need a splenectomy. Not to mention, this was the first small dog that my practice has ever had to do a spleen removal on.

I firmly believe that if Collette Thorne was a reputable and responsible breeder, she would have screened his parents for genetic abnormalities and not bred them. I mean, I love my little guy to pieces, but I feel so horrible for him that he has had to go through all of this trauma.
