I have bought 8 new cars in my life and never have I been treated so bad when I recently went down to Colorado River Ford of Kingman, Az. I was told over the phone that I could purchase a new Ford F-150 Truck with a Ford X-plan Pin Number (which you can only get from someone who works at Ford) for around $280.00 a month when I arrived there it jumped up to $359.00.

I told them over the phone that I was looking for a payment around $260.00 to $280.00 a month, when I got there they tried to talk me into the payment of $359.00, telling me that I could afford it! After getting it though their thick heads that I would not accept that payment, they tried to talk me into a smaller truck, a Ford Ranger at a cost of $11,000.00, which would have been a could deal, but the payments they said would be between $307.00 to $320.00 for 72 months they couldn't give me an exact amount and they wouldn't tell me what the interest rate would be, even after asking them 3 times during our conversations!

Well I figured it out, 72 months at a payment of $310.00 a month comes up to be $22,320.00 that's an interest rate of 27%, no wonder they didn't want to tell me! You see with an X-plan you get it below dealers cost which got me thinking, why where they so pushy on selling me a new vehicle if they're not making any money. If they weren't trying to sell me a vehicle at 27% they where sure hiding thousands of dollars some where!

#2Consumer Suggestion

Fri, March 14, 2003

Jessie Let's chat about what lost leader add you used to bring this car buyer to your lot. You and I know that car dealers use all kinds of misleading and deceptive adds to get more "UPs" on their lot. Most lost leader adds are set up so a car buyer can not hold the car dealer's feet to the fire of a good car deal! GM's GSM's both sit down every week and say to each other maybe at a local bar over a cold beer, "hey how can we get more lookers and more suckers on our lot. What kind of HOT buttons and we place in this weeks add? What kind of FALSE HOPE can we print this week for our local suckers. What kind of BS can we print this week! Jessie it is a fact that car dealers will use anything to get the consumer on their lot. Then and only then their "Trained Lot Sharks" will take over and remove the Hope from the car Buyer's heads and remove the Buyer's money from their checking accounts in a long slow painful process of 60, 72 or maybe 84 high monthly payments. You know what I mean by bate and switch. Bate with the deceptive newspaper adds that have a VERY SMALL disclaimer at the bottom of the add that removes all promises by saying. We can not be responsible for any Typo's or any photo errors, And that all cars are subject to prior sale. At this time I shall post one of the disclaimers that a Nissan dealer in Colorado had in their add. I contacted a Rip Off Advocate in Denver, Colorado. I had them send me the Sunday Denver Post. Here is what a Colorado Nissan add said. 1 See store for details. What #1 one should say. "Hey we are not telling you a d**n thing over the phone so get down here" so our Trained Lot Sharks can chew on you for a while. 2 Vehicle quantities are approximate and may vary. What #2 should say, is "Hey will make you think we have what you want, we will tell you what you want to hear, just get down here! 3 Manufacturer rebates and incentives are subject to change without prior notice. What #3 could mean, is we will use the rebates and incentives in our newspaper add to get you down here and we might snatch them all away once we know we have what you really want. Dealer might say that the Manufacturer rebates and incentives just changed JUST before buyer got on the lot or at 12 mid night last night. This one is a good one. 4 Vehicles subject to prior sale. #4 Could say to buyer, Hey that one that you really want that is still on the lot, is already sold, SORRY! Our lazy lot boy is slow at getting cars that are sold off of the lot. 5 All sales prices are good until 3/12/03. #5 might mean, Must come down to our lot RIGHT NOW Time is limited. Our "Trained Lot Sharks" are very hungry, so hurry RUN as fast as you can, the great car deals are going FAST!!!! 6 All prices include all rebates, incentives and dealer handling, plus tax, tag, license with approved credit. #6 could say, No rebates or incentives after the advertised prices, plus tax, tag, and license. We will not tell you about the true value of your credit. We want our F&I Sharks to have fun bending you over and locking you in a High interest rate car loan so they can increase the size of their next pay check. 7 Prices and inventory good in this store only. #7 might mean Hey we want you to know that these good prices are not at any other dealer in town, so you have to come here to get the good deals. Here is a good one 8 Photos for illustration purposes only. #8 might mean, Photos are for illusion purposes only. We cannot be responsible for what you want to believe. We want you to think you are getting the upgraded model at the better price. So dream on sucker! 9 Color and equipment may vary. #9 We might show you the upgraded model and sell you the mooch mobile that has no extras for the upgraded model's price. It just makes me sick to see all the deceptive adds that newspapers print. SALE SALE SALE SALE. Come to the LOT RIGHT NOW for the deal of a lifetime. For ONLY ONE day! WE will Pay off your trade no matter how much you owe. Inventory reduction must take place TODAY regardless of our lost! One that might be real common today is this one, Buy a car today and get FREE GAS for one year! Come and get that $199 per month car payment you know you want! Here is a common one, ALL CREDIT applications WILL be excepted! Bad Credit? We can help you! Bankruptcy, Bad divorce, Many repo's, We can help. CALL RIGHT NOW before the great deals are all gone. Just maybe the car dealers of America will see that the American public is sick and tired of all of the deceptive games they all like to play. So if you are a car buyer, or just are thinking about going to a local Shark pond, think real hard as to what can happen if you are not paying close attention! And I must not forget about this one. Come to our GIANT TENT EVENT! What is so special about a TENT EVENT? I have been to many tent sales as a salesman. They are set up like it is a SPECIAL one time only deal. Most car dealers have a tent sale at a different location other then their dealership. Car dealers will have some kind of tent rental company come to a fair ground or some stinking cow field and set up the "Sucker Magnet" Then the dealers will cherry pic their "Trained lot sharks. They will leave behind the weak sharks that have no teeth at their dealership. They will only let their Trained Lot Sharks attend the tent sale. Becuase they want to lock all of the lookers and suckers into a deal. If you are thinking of buying a new or used car, think real hard as to what the dealer's disclaimer is NOT SAYING! Read between the lines. All car dealer adds are full of loop holes that prevent car dealers from being backed into a good car deal for the buyer.

Now their Liars ..Jesse get your figures right before you write a rebuttal

Regarding Jessie's rebuttal First off why are you lying? I was told over the phone that Dave could get me in the price range that I needed. Second, you never mentioned the fact that Dave tried to talk me down to a Ranger NOT A F-150! And that's the one he wanted me to drive home and show my wife! Third, the payments that David told me on the F-150 would have been $359 and the one on the Ranger $307 to $320, you failed to mention the Ranger why? Fourth, you said my credit did not measure up to the 0% financing, then why when I said to Dave, let me bring my wife in, she's got real good credit, his comment was... It would not make any difference. Fifth, your figures even though they were not the same one's given to me... the still don't add up right, even with my pay off on then Ranger! In closing, Jesse get your figures right before you write a rebuttal, and learn how to spell and type! Hard to believe your in public relations!

The Facts on Mr. Horrell's Case

#4UPDATE Employee

Thu, March 13, 2003

Colorado River Ford is responding to M. Kevin Horrell's statements with reference to his sales experience of Feb. 13, 2003 at our Kingman location. When Mr. Horrell contacted the dealership, speakign to Sales Consultant Dave york, he had indicated he wanted to trade in his 1996 Ford Ranger on a 2003 Ford F150. At no time do we ever give "numbers" over thephone. We had no credit information on Mr. Horrell and we had not even seen his trade-in. Mr. Horrell did finally come into the dealership, a full credit application was obtained and his trade was appraised. After running his credit through the bureau w were not able to get him to $280.00 a month on a 2003 F150. Mr. horrell unfortunately did not qualify for the zero percent loan incentive curenlty being offered by Ford. However, on a new Ford Ranger at $14,8193 priced at the "X" Plan, less th $3,000 rebate, less $750.00 cash down, and $800.00 trade allowance, came in at a net of $11,069.53 at 10.99% for 72 months. This gave Mr. Horrell a monthly payment of $286.86 per month. The sales tax, lieu tax, title fees, registation fees, doc fee and the $2,623.23 balance owing on his trade were all added to the loan amount. In other words, Mr. Horrell was "upside down" on his trade-in vehicle. Our sales consultant offered to drive the vehicle to Mr. Horrell's residence in Lake Havasu City so his wife can see and test drive the vehicle. Mr. Horrell was even given the opporutnity to take the vehicle home for the night. Instead of working with us to understand what was going into this car deal, Mr. Horrell decided to buy a USED truck from another dealership, not even giving Coloraod River Ford theopportunity to work with him on a used vehicle deal. Bottom line here is that Mr. Horrell appears to be an uninformed consumer at best and we sincerely do not appreciate the ridiculous and false "mud slinging" allegations. Sincerely yours, Public Relations Manager
