Con Artist Uses Ficticious Name Used home computer generated cashiers check to purchase vehicle Phoenix Arizona
On 12/12/05 I was at home sick with the flu with my guard down or this never would have happened. I advertised my truck for sale in the truck trader. The theif called & stated that his daughters boyfriend recently wrecked her truck and dad was looking for a replacement to get her off his back. He negotiated money over the phone (something I normally wouldn't do) and got my name & address stating that he'd go to the bank & get a cashiers check and send her out to buy the truck. This sounded too simple to be legitimate to me but I was sick and really just wanted to get it over with. I live out in the "boonies" where its dark when I leave for work in the AM & return in the PM. I reasoned in my sick mind that this could be a great opportunity to get the truck sold during daylight hours & not have to wait for the weekend. A male & female showed up & appeared to be in a big hurry. They stated that he had a meeting he was late for. They didn't do a vehicle inspection, ask any questions or anything a leery car buyer would do. I saw the danger signs but chose to ignore them. They gave me the check & I gave them a signed, open title. Luckily I took the forged cashiers check to the bank sick or not right away to learn of the bad news. I was able to submit a police report & get the truck reported stolen before the vin was out of my name. If anyone tries to register that title it will come up as stolen. I forgot to mention that caller ID came in as "private."
So I basically gave the truck away and waved goodby and I feel like a schmuck for allowing it to happen.
