Coral Resorts Sales Tactics and Financing Hilton Head, South Carolina
My wife and I were invited to a sales presentation by Coral Resorts in Hilton Head, SC, to purchase a time-share property for vacation use. We were told that we would get a deed to the property and that the cost was $24,900 and $395 closing cost. 20% would be required for the down payment and the remainder they would finance for 60 months at 17.9%.
I told Carmen, the sales agent, that I would be interested but not at that rate. I told her I could contact my bank and have a check the next day for the entire amount. She had to go talk to her supervisor, Trey, who came over and offered me a one time deal at $18,250 with $395 closing cost, 10% down, 60 months at 14.5%.
Again, I told Trey that I would use my own bank and could have a check for the full amount the next day. He got upset with me and told me that I didn't know how this work and was throwing away a chance to save $6000. The better deal was only available today. I said I wouldn't make any purchase without waiting 24 hours to think it over and check with my bank. He said that I was stupid for doing that. He got up and left with Carmen. My wife and I got up and left as well.
I am sure that he did not want me to check with my bank. When I got back to my hotel room I did my homework on the internet.
