Call it Coretrans, call it Eagle Carriers...it's all the same people at the same location pulling the same stunts. After 5 years of employment, I finally realized that the road I was on at Coretrans was going nowhere. 5 years of promisingme World and delivering nothing. On Sunday December 12, 2010 I reported for work. I was under dispatch for a load that I was told picked up anytime on Sunday. The load delivered in Springfield, Mass by Monday at 3 p.m. Upon arriving at the shipper in Danville, KentuckyI was informed the load wasn't even scheduled to be picked up until 8 that night. To break this down, thats a 925 mile load that would have to deliver in 19 hours. Anyone thats been in this industry for more than 2 weeks can tell you this is impossible to do legally. I notified dispatch of this and they attributed this to "the customer not communicating the corrrect pick up time." This was a lie. Coretrans was well aware of the pick up time but could frankly care less. This is all part of them treating drivers like they are puppets on a string. They expect drivers to do "whatever it takes" to make ontime pick ups and deliveries, whether its legal or not. Enough about how little the company cares about and treats their drivers though. I'll proceed to what happened once I resigned.

I resigned my position at Coretrans that very day. I returned my truck to the terminal in Somerset, Kentucky as I was required to do. Upon recieving my next paycheck, I noticed my healthinsurance premiums had more than doubled. It had been $126 per week for almost 5 years. On this check that amount had grown to $277.81. I consulted with the company about this and they advised me it was an oversight on their part and I had been accidenatally billed my portion AND the companies portion of the health insurance. They assured me the issue would be resolved on my next (and final) check. I went in to pick up that check and to my surprise, not only had the issue NOT been resolved, but they had witheld the same amount ($277.81) once again. In additon, they had also deducted $210 for out of route miles that was allegedly incurred when I drove the truck back to the terminal. The entire trip TO and FROM the customer was 84 miles. They deducted $2.50 per mile. This company is lucky to get paid a $1.25 per mile to haul a customers frieght. I guess they make up the difference by charging their drivers twice that amount.

As far as the people at Coretrans go, they are ALL programmed to LIE to any driver. The owner, Brian Whitaker, has people afraid to stand up to him. You can ask any driver there, Brian has often been heard saying "I don't answer to the Labor Board, the DOT, etc..." He honestly believes he's above the rules that govern the trucking industry. Of course he won't confront anyone in person about this, but if he's on the phone with youor speaking through one of his flunkies, he's "a powerful man thats a force to be reckoned with in the trucking industry". He actually relayed a message to me through his Operations Manager that "he didn't need my money, he had plenty of his own". WHY then does he attempt to rob every driver that is smart enough to LEAVE Coretrans? I've known numerous drivers that have came and went through my time at Coretrans. Out of the dozens that have left there, I know of maybe 3 or 4 that have recieved all pay coming to them WITHOUT having to get the Department of Labor involved.

To ANY driver that even thinks about going to work at Coretrans, I offer the following advice: DON'T DO IT!!!! This company will ask you to do things that are ILLEGAL, not log work performed in your log book and try everything possible to hold your money if you ever decide to leave the company. Sub par equipment, sub par pay and sub par management make this company a joke. As I said earlier, they promise you the World and deliver NOTHING. I've been around this industry for almost 20 years and in my opinion, this comapany will be out of business within the next 24 months. They have numerous lawsuits, including a wrongul death suit pending against them in court. They are one lawsuit away from bankruptcy. It wouldn't be the first time though. They throw around a little money and things like lawsuits get swept under the rug. Again, I urge any driver that considers working here to find a job elsewhere. Find a carrier that cares about you, your well being and your family. Coretrans doesn't.

Elogs = Legal Operation

First off, we are 100% legal. We DO answer to DOT so it's in the company's best interset to keep operations legal. We run electronic logs so a driver who is running illegally is doing so on their own doing. Before you believe whatever you read, ask yourself these questions: Why would the owner of a company put their livelihood in jeopardy by running drivers illegally and fatigued? Why would he make a huge investment and install Elogs just to contradict the entire purpose of Elogs? We recently had a DOT audit in January 2013 and the officers checked over 900 driver logs. Out of these 900 logs, only 2 violations were found. We are a safe company and run a tight operation. We expect people to work and to be safe while doing so. It's been my experience that the drivers who don't follow this motto, don't like the company.

The original statement sounds awfully accurate to me. While the author has every right to retract that statement, I would question WHY he felt the need to do so. The fact of the matter is Coretrans is a company you definitely want to avoid. I worked there for just over a year and have seen firsthand many of the things the original author - as well as those that have responded - take place on numerous occasions. It's true they have updated their equipment over the last couple of years. My guess is the new equipment was financed by tye amount of money the company makes by paying drivers what's referred to as "short miles". If you were to follow the routing Coretrans provides you'll end up on streets and roads never intended to accommodate a truck. I'm  still at the job I left Coretrans for which pays practical miles. The difference over a year, running almost the exact same freight, is an increase of 14%. That doesn't sound like much but when you affix a dollar amount to it you'll soon see its a substantial amount of money. Money you won't be making at Coretrans though you're basically being forced to run the practical miles, but still getting paid tye short miles or 14% fewer miles as was my case. Coretrans has also spent a great deal of money by installing ELogs in their trucks. Why they wasted this money is beyond me because you will still be asked to log off duty and drive as well as use personal conveyance time to deliver their freight. They also have a habit of overbooking freight which causes them to put drivers in situations where failure to service the customer requires the driver bend or break numerous rules set forth by the DOT. As for the responder above, I'm not sure what he's looking at CSA score wise, but Coretrans CSA score are anything but desirable. A quick look at the CSA website will prove this. But with that being said, there are some really good people there. Hard workers who do everything possible to service Coretrans customers in a timely and safe manner. It's too bad the company doesn't appreciate the efforts of those particular drivers. There are 3 catagories of drivers at Coretrans: 1) Those who cannot get a job elsewhere. 2) Those who'll last there less than a month. 3) Those that have been there for years and whether it be through dedication or what have you, refuse to leave though there are much greener pastures available.  Mike, Brian or whoever the true owner is should be very grateful for drivers like Terry Ballew, James York, Randy Cumpston and a 2 or 3 others. He would be surprised what most companies would offer for drivers like these. Unfortunately, they seem happier with the Robert Vanover / Adam Liversy type drivers that constantly bad mouth both the owner and the company a every time they get the chance. I can only offer my ADVICE, but if any of you were to take that adviice, you'd steer clear if Coretrans. Be safe out there guys!

Observations Of A Current Driver !

I have been driving for Coretrans for the past three years and have been driving trucks for a total of eightteen. During this time I have driven for five companies with Coretrans being the fifth.

I have driven for two of the largest companies in the industry and a couple smaller ones. Is Coretrans the best company, no, but it's certainly not the worse. It is my contention that all trucking companies are pretty much the same.

When I first started their equipment wasn't the newest around, but was safe and compliant, and hey, the heater and air conditioner worked and so did I. Since early last year Coretrans has replaced it's fleet of trucks (130) with new 2012 and 2013 Volvo's and Freightliners and purchased all new trailers equipped with skirts and tails.

Also they went from paper logs to electronic logs with Qualcoms that include GPS installed in all tractors. As a result, being green lighted at weigh stations is now a common occurence, and their CSA score has subsequently improved to favorable status.

Every company that I worked for had a stringent idiling policy with either drivers being charged for over idle or eventually terminated if they failed to comply. Coretrans does have a policy but to theircredit will allow a driver ten hours of idle time in a 24 hour period which is more than fair.

Truck driving is a demanding, stressfull, and thankless job, and is not for everyone. I'm sure that there are valid complaints, like above, but a majority of the complainers are usually from the drivers who are habitually late fot pick up's and deliveries and won't be happy for whoever they drive for..

I worked for them three weeks. Just about every load given was illegal. Any mile out of route you are charge $2.50. You cannot leave bobtail if you are out on a load to get anything to eat, do laundry, or get a shower. They charged me for damage on the truck i was not responsible for. They did not pay me one dime for the work I did for them and charged me 1200.00 dollars or they said I would be charged for a felony. Why are they not being charged with a felony they owe me more than 1200.00 dollars. This by no means is a done deal. Do not work for these evil people they do not appreciate anyone especially Truck drivers. The labor board and DOT will be notified of their illegal activity. I can't imagine why that guy recanted his statement, I suffered just about the full extent of every thing he mentioned in his article. So i am a first hand witness to their evil deeds, which means he might as well recant his recanted statement! Brian Whitaker your low down dirty Thief And Tracy your a Liar not a dispatcher! Pay me the money you owe thieves!

Same Old Story

#7UPDATE EX-employee responds

Kinda the same old story. The author said the Brian Whitaker is the owner. According to public records daddy man Mike Whitaker is the owner. Mike filed bankruptcy on Eagle Carriers to the cool tune of $14 million because he was doing something bad. Brian is probably on the legal papers because Mike probably cannot be the owner of record.
Mike Whitaker allegedly goes to church. Perhaps Brian was also reared in church, but Mike is a big money man and he would attend the church with the biggest attendance of shipping executives. Mike Whitaker is the most money hungry man I have ever known. So long as a driver can deliver the freight all is well, but if anything goes wrong, the driver is hung out to dry and nothing is Mike's or Eagle Carries or CoreTrans.com fault.
Superdupper is a far better place to work. Yes, Eagle may get its drivers home most weekends--for an hour or two or even overnight, but Super Service gets its drivers home for real home time--a full weekend or more.
Work elsewhere. It is better for your health.

The first statement is all true, I worked there 2 weeks and that was enough. They charge the driver back for everything right down to making a wrong turn out of route, and yes they will try to run you illegal. They can't understand why their drivers are tired. OK so in short, 2 weeks into my employment there I saw and heard this first hand and decided to switch to another company. When arriving at the terminal to clean my truck I was confronted with spite and hostilities, they are an " at will" company which means within the first 90 days either party has the right to terminate employment without reason or 2 week notice. Just because the owner "brian whiticker" however you spell it was mad because I was no longer a dollar sign for them, he threatened to mess with my DAC and CSA 2010 score That's illegal in it self considering he said he was happy with my performance. And the safety director "sitting right there" let him talk to me that way. If I see any crap on my DAC from this spoiled little loser a lawyer will be visiting them. DOT please shut them down!!! And yes he has his office puppets scared of him and does not thing DOT applies to him!!

Their company is on the back burner with DOT and CSA2010 so I guess misery loves company and the drivers mean no more than a paycheck to those people so I say to ALL drivers, "STAY AWAY" there eguipment junk as well!!!

I seriously question the validity of the Reporter's Rebuttal. Having worked for Core Trans and experience the way they do business, the initial Report sounds truthful.
I am aware of two drivers that the Labor Board collected for from Core Trans, so, yes, they have a history of illegally charging drivers.
I don't fault management from staying armed. According to reliable news reports, an ex-employee that killed two teenagers here had his intentions set on personnel there before he killed the teenagers. He is currently serving life without parole consideration for twenty-five years.
