When I told my 73 year old husband that Cox had given us a 'courtesy call', he said not to worry, that he had sent a check for $48.90, the regular amount. Today, 7/26/04, Cox came to the door and demanded $119.00 or the cable would be cut-off.

We asked the man to step into the house so that we could call Cox and find out what the problem was, and why the amount was so high. The man was belligerent and said that it didn't matter what Cox said, that he didn't work for Cox but was a private contractor. I asked him for his company phone number and he refused to give it. He was getting loud and I could see he wasn't going to be reasonable or listen to anything.

I said for him not to be a smart-a*s because we were trying to work something out...we couldn't imagine where such exorbitant charges came from. The man tried to get into a fight mode over the smart-a*s thing. He was menacing, my oxygen wasn't helping the level of stress this man was causing, and we finally had to close the door in his face.

When we called Cox, they said they were adding an extra $40.00 deposit, plus a shut-off charge, plus something else..just because. You might say that it isn't against the law to be nasty, and I am sure Cox counts on that..but there should be a law.

Cox Cable is Ma Bell with sweat stains, pushy and mean. Since when is an entity (Cox) allowed to operate without any strictures whatever? Cox Cable thinks it is too big and too busy to conduct themselves properly..and p.s. they are going to fine me because they think I am short of money??!!!!!

I think you are trying to take advantage of Cox. They would never send a contractor to collect  money for a past due debt. You should conduct yourself properly. Pay your bill on time, or don't get it at all. Common sense people.

I was contacted by Steve Jennings of Cox Communications of Warner Robins. Mr. Jennings remitted the $40.00 deposit, and apologized for the collector. They still did not receive our check and so we will pay that amount plus a month that we were in arrears and didn't realize it. Thank you Cox Communications. We all look forward to the day that american business takes the high road instead of becoming a page out of "Crime and Punishment"
