Tell us has your experience with this business or person been good? What's this?

We took our 79 Harvey to Crawford Boats to get the bottom re-glassed (re-surfaced), some minor repairs done and the transom & hull painted.

We paid $1,000 up front to begin the process.  Boat was delivered on March 11th or 12th. We were told it would take 4 to 6 weeks to complete the work & that they would keep us updated on the progress.  After 4 weeks we inquired on the progress to be told the repairs were done but that he had to wait for better weather to paint. I contacted him 2 weeks or so later to find the painting still hadn't been done due to weather, but that he'd have it done that Friday - that would mean done by May 9th. They simply kept putting us off with excuses.

Finally on May 20th, Tom went to retrieve our boat. Some 70 days (over 2 months) after leaving it with Joe Crawford.

1st - He didn't reglass (resurface) the bottom of the boat at all.  But we paid him up front for that to be done.

2nd - The paint job? OMG!!!! It was awful!  There were places where paint was missing, sanding marks and gouges on the hull and transom, areas where the paint had dripped and not corrected, areas under the ribs of the hull where the paint dripped was left rough and unfinished.

3rd - Last bu not least, OVERSPRAY.  From the anchor in the front to the outdrive off the back and everywhere in between. i mean everywhere - floor, windshield, lights, anchor, trim, floor, antennaes, nothing was left untouched.

3rd - I sent them a certified letter as well as copied the letter to them via email demanding our money back.  Their response was to bring it back for warranty work.  After what I saw the first go round?  Not Hardly!

All in all we paid him $2,000 for poor quality and unprofessional workmanship.

HEAD THIS WARNING!!!!!  Do Not Take Your precious boat to this man.  He hasn't refunded our money and i've had to turn in a claim with Oregon Financial Fraud Dept to attempt to get our money back.

The Haney's brought their boat in to us for paint work. They were advised of what we could do for the price we quoted. We surfaced the bottom, and filled extra holes in the transom., and painted the hull. The price quoted, and the work performed was what we contracted to do. If they had asked for a car finish paint job, we would have quoted the job as such. They came to us unhappy with the cost of, and the work performed by the shop that they had the boat at before us. They have sunk more money into this boat than it would have cost to build a new one, and seem to de perturbed by that. We also told them we would take their boat in on trade, and build them a new one to try and help also.

We are also the manufacturing company of the dorys now. As for any over spray I told them to bring the boat in to us, and we would take care of that if there was any. We also told them we would do what we could to help out with any other issues if there was any for customer service. They declined to bring it in for any needed warranty work. When the owner picked it up he looked the boat over, and did not tell us about any issues, and spent at least a half hour looking at it and talking with me. It seems they want a $4500.00 job for half the price. We do most of the repair work on the Harvey dorys in our area, and have never had a complaint. Thank you.
