This was charged on my prepaid work check card out of the blue and I have been emailing with Maureen.

I haven't applied for membership I went through Experian but they use these janky website that appear to be offical then lead you through click-thorugh links until you have to reliquish a debit/credit card to get at your FREE Credit score. Its the ususal bait and switch and I'm tired of being scammed and robbed from what little bit I make. I work part time on call for a catering company and I only make 172$ per pay check and then I get this 59$ charged and I can't even buy a bus card to get back and forth on the metro. This system is sick and ineffective because the very people they prey on are the people that they are pretending to help. I'm so disgusted with this ineefective credit rating system and the man-made credit-card fraud it makes me want justice partly because I know this goes on so much because people like me don't have access to the privaledge of having business lines of credit and a retainer of lawyers to make sure that sharks like these don't prey on our families and relatives. Some one has to put a stop to this and that person is going to be me, It STOPS HERE WITH ME!

Maureen says:

Dear Casmir Patterson:

Thank you for writing and asking about the recent charge on your credit card and your request for a refund.

We apologize for the delayed response.

On June 25, 2013 you enrolled in a trial credit monitoring membership from CreditCheckTotal.com, which included an 3- Bureau credit report and score.  The website stated,

"If you don't cancel your membership within the 7-day trial period, you will be billed $29.95 plus $0.00 sales tax for a total of $29.95 , for each month that you continue your membership.  You may cancel your trial membership anytime within the trial period without charge."

Our records indicate you did not cancel your membership by the end of the trial period, therefore we set up your membership to automatically bill on the 4th of every month, using the credit card information you provided at the time of enrollment.

Regarding your request for a refund, we regret we cannot honor that request.  When you submitted your order at CreditCheckTotal.com on June 25, 2013 , you agreed to the Terms and Conditions of our offer, part of which states that:

"If for any reason you are not satisfied, you can cancel at any time to discontinue the membership and stop the monthly billing; however, you will not be eligible for a prorated refund of any portion of your current month's paid membership fee."

In order to avoid further charges, this will confirm we processed your request for cancellation of the CreditCheckTotal.com credit monitoring membership as of February 9, 2014.  Your cancellation confirmation number is 330849086.

We will continue to monitor your 3- Bureau credit report and you will still be able to receive alerts and access your credit report untilMarch 4, 2014, when your membership expires.

If you have any other questions, please call our Customer Care team and a representative will be happy to assist you.

I'm sorry you had such an experience, but I, and many other people, have been getting Experian free credit reports for years.  Yes, they'll offer other services, I'm sure.  But you can also get a free report.  You just don't click on every little thing that pops up, and when you do it right, you get a report without a CC#.
