I believe am the victim of bank fraud and there may be many similar cases in the Toledo area.

I am a transplanted Toledoan who will be moving back from Columbus this week. I noticed that on 10/28, a check was coming through my bank account for $50. I didn't remember writing a check for that amount but thought that I must have. It bounced, and on 11/08 it happened again... a check for $62.25. I went to the sky branch in Grandview, and asked them about it. They said that the 2 charges were to something called Cricket. I said that I thought that was a cell phone company. I don't have cricket service though... in fact, cricket doesn't even exist down here. I filed fraud complaint with Bank, and they said it would take some time for the charges to be reversed.

I went into the branch in Grandview again this morning (11/22), and asked if the charges had been reversed. They were not... in fact, there was another charge from Cricket that had gone through for about $52. This one had also bounced. I went to the Cricket website a bit later in the day to find a phone number. There was a number (1-800-cricket). I called this number, but since I don't have an account with them, I couldn't access the system, as it was totally automated. I ended up contacting a friend in Toledo that I knew had cricket service. He gave me his information to access the system. I spoke with a woman and she said that it sounded like fraud. She gave me a California number to call and said that it was their fraud department. I called at 3:30 California time, and got an answering machine. I left a message. Some guy called me back the next day and blamed my bank for the charges... i have contacted the media in this matter.

I am out about $254 so far. This includes 3 bounced check charges. bank on Heatherdowns Blvd has put a block on my account, to prevent anymore bogus charges from coming through. I just want my money back.

I completely understand your complaint. We've gotten this before. It's a good thing that you've asked the bank to halt anymore charges. Be assured that WE didn't steal your money, but it's someone else that has somehow gained access to your checking account. I hope we can resolve this matter quickly for you. As for your bank, they should provide some protection for you since they hold your account and you did not authorize the use of those checks. Please check with your bank and fax not only the statements in which they occured, but also copies of the cancelled checks to this fax number: (858)882-9290. If a debit card was used, please use this number (858)882-9999.
