If you had filed Chapter 7, it would have been shown under the Public Records portion of your credit report, including date filed, case number, court, etc. Additionally, IF you had filed another Chapter 7 since the first one, you wouldn't owe Cross Country anything, as it would have wiped out that debt. Sounds to me like they are trying to blackmail you into paying them $400+. You need to FIRMLY INSIST they provide you with the "lawyer" who "notified" them that you had filed Chapter 7. What a crock! The "laywer" would not have done that, they would have received noticed from the US Bankruptcy Court, so insist that they provide this doumentation or immediately correct it.
