I came to the vet with a sick Neapolitan Mastiff, suffering from bronchial problems and runny eyes. I also asked that they trim her nails. They trimmed her nails and then recommended a whole troop of tests including a liver series, skin tests, blood tests, ear canal irrigation, X-rays and a test for tear production. I authorized the blood test and the tear test. The doctor insisted that dog was lethargic and might be suffering from a cortazone deficiency, and the condition might be life threatening. I authorized a test for this, believing that it was $8, not $79.
Upon receiving a bill for these services, it included more than $100 in medicines which the receptionist couldn't explain. As well, I was charged for ear canal cleaning AND two treatments for her ear canals.
The entire event took 1.5 hours and would have taken longer had I not threatened to just leave. By then I was late to get back to work and had to leave. On retuning home, I noted the unauthorized charges, including $79.00 for one blood series and $38 for another.
I'm stopping payment on their check, and I will only pay the $91 for the services I authorized: toe nail clipping, office visit, tear test and 1 blood test.
