Wow. I just googled shear image and I found these complaints. I am fortunate to have never gotten an infection from these girls but they did burn my scalp badly with bleach. I have naturally dark hair and wanted it just a shade lighter. The girl used an extremely hard bleach to lift the color and totally damaged it! I wouldn't go to them again.

It is evident that this hair salon has only been around for " 3 years" as the owner states in her attempts to cover up her horrible business. You can also note that she posts as a " employee" and the " owner" and uses the same choice of wording to blame the post on a "disgruntled employee".  Nice try to cover up ! A smart choice for employees and potential customers is to stay away from this shop. The owner associates with gang members, and may be using the business to launder drug money.

If the business has a solid clientel and devoted followers, a few bad experiences by other clients shouldn't be enough to break the salon.  As a cosmetologist with years of experience and a pretty stacked book, I feel like I need to respond to this report.

Burning a client via chemicals is never ok.  Ever.  However, it does happen.  It's like going to the doctor.  He gives you medication because as a medical professional, he knows that's what you need to get the result you desire, to be healthy.  Sometimes people have terrible reactions.  It happens.  Is it that doctors fault?  9/10 times no, no it isn't.  I know at my salon, and every other salon I've educated at, we have release forms.  They essentially release us from any liability if anything happens.  It explains the potential dangers etc.  However, at our salon we give our clients the option of doing what's called a "patch test" where we apply the color or whatever chemical to a small, hard to notice area of skin.  We let the chemical process normally, and wait 24 hours before performing the entire service.

Obviously, most clients don't want to wait that long.  Who wants to wait 2 days to get highlights and waste 2 trips?  Not most people.  Which is why they sign the release.  It says that since we can't perform the needed precautions, if anything happens, we cannot be held liable.

As a professional, there are certain things that no matter who you are, "x" reaction will happen.  Did your hair already have color on it?  This could honestly be a case of someone who's a little too inexperienced.  I've been doing hair close to 10 years and I STILL get second opinions on most things just for the sake of a second set of eyes.  You never know.  In a situation like yours, someone wanting to go up a shade or two from a dark color, I NEVER lighten the entire head.  It's too much stress on the scalp and hair.  I ALWAYS do all over, heavy highlighting.  Putting straight lightener on the scalp isn't really ever a great idea.  You can do it, but there are so many better ideas to do instead of slapping it right on the scalp.

I won't bore you with any more shop talk, it's late and I'm long winded because I'm passionate about hair.

In all honesty though, just because a salon has only been open for three years doesn't mean they are talentless and all new.  My best friend just opened up her own shop, literally open for maybe 6 months.  She's been doing hair 15 years, and all of her staff has more than 10 years experience individually.  Don't judge a salon by that figure alone.

Essentially, if you had this experience at my shop, even though we have EVERY client sign a waiver, if you had gotten chemical burns we would have covered your medical bills 100%.  We would have insisted you gone to the doctor, of your choice, to make sure you're clear and keeping healthy to stave off infection, and we would have foot the entire bill.  While it is unfortunate and may or may not be our fault, we are still the professionals.  While chemical burns are certainly not always preventable, you can treat them.  A lot of times they don't show up until a few hours later after you've left our chair.

I would have gone back to them and 1. Gotten you money back for the service and 2. Had them pay for a doctors visit.  If this ever happens again, please do that.  You have a right as a consumer.

I have never been so disgusted by a website and reviews on anything ever! I have and will always continue to visit Shear Image. Ive never had a complaint and the staff is awesome. Ive never heard anyone raise their voice at the salon especially from the owner.

I know im not alone in my opinion and as far as being associated with gang members and money laundering, this is just absolutely ridiculous and slanderous! You obviously have never been to this salon nor Winnipeg for that matter. I cant believe this waste of space ( ripoff report )exists and is allowed to try to ruin the reputation of locally owned  businesses in our beautiful city! under the better business bureau shear image has zero complaints!
