For anyone to assume you will rent a vacation property without a security deposit is ludicrous. No hotel or lodging I have ever come across has ever allowed me into their premises without a security deposit. They usually do not mention it. They do, however, always get a credit card when you check in. This is their security.
Since I am not set up for credit cards my way of securing my property is to require a security deposit. I am not alone in this practise as every vacation rental I have seen does so also. In addition it is quite visibly stated in my listing. The security deposit is returned immediately upon departure if the place checks out so there is no expense unless you are planning on either damaging the property, removing furnishings or leaving it filthy. This man's own father stated he could see the rational behind my way of doing business. It would be folly for me to do otherwise.
I take pride in conducting my business with the highest degree of integrity. If you are considering renting from me I can give you a long list of happy past tenants. You absolutely will not be sorry.
