Deborah Landreth/Edward Van Herik Harassment, Bullying, Abuse at Alpine Oaks Condo Alpine California
We rented a condo at xxxx Arnold Way (221), Alpine Ca from Edward Van Herik. He is currently and has been using an unlicensed property manager named Deborah Landreth. When we first moved into the condo there were numerous things that needed to be fixed. This "property manager" never did the necessary work to standard, always came to the job with someone else who was also unlicensed and all the jobs were not done to industry standard. After numerous attempts to contact the owner, Ed, he always told us to use Deborah to get the problems done. The problem, however, is Deborah. She complains, called us cussing, came to do the jobs high on marijuana, used other people to do he job. It took 115 days to get the non-working dishwasher to be replaced. She replaced it with a used model that was scratched, does not work properly, leaks constantly and has caused major damage to the wood underneath the sink. The sink continues to leak when the water is turned on.
There has been a bad smell in one bathroom that never was fixed. The condo was not cleaned properly when we moved in and she allowed her cat to roam around before moving in. She told our neighbors three months into the "lease" (more about this later) that she was going to evict us because "Ed and I don't like them". The problem was we told the landlord she never fixed problems on time or at all. When we complained to Ed, he always told us to talk to her or said the problem was with us and our attitude. Deborah placed a flyer on the kiosk after that advertising our condo, loudly told our neighbors we were being evicted but "don't tell them because they don't know" and promised the condo to a man who was her "friend" in another that he could move to our unit. Ultimately she took down the flyer due to to the fact that the guy she promised the condo to moved out and would have nothing to do with her.
As I am disabled and have a registered dog to help me, she would call us late at night complaining the dog was barking. He is a trained animal and does not bark unless under command. She also parked in my handicapped spot that I have been using since I moved in just to be cruel as she had a temporary handicapped placard and also a spot closer to the condo (204) she lives in.
The owner does not care about his propery and numerous tenants have left this condo prior to us without paying rent. We understand why they have done this as we will be moving out at the end of November, 2013 due to his not renewing our lease because of complaints. The leases (two that she printed from the internet) were never signed by the owner, we have received no receipts for our deposit or for any months of rent.
We are moving out of state and had no intention of staying in a condo with major plumbing issues still not resolved. Both bathrooms have problems with the toilet due to non repair and there has been cat little in the baseboards and in the toilet water basin. Most of the windows are so old and are nearly impossible to open. The landlord expects us to have the carpets shampooed even though they were not cleaned or shampooed upon move in. The property manager never did the basic cleaning upon move in (dirty sinks, chipped sinks that were painted over, holes in the wall not repairs, only three walls painted, dirty refrigerator shelves, dirty trash compactor, oven unlean).
These people and the unit should be avoided at all costs. The owner will not deal with you directly, will never call and ask how things are. The property manager uses drugs, does not do her job, is not licensed, will gossip constantly and complain to the homeowner association about you. She is a bully, is beligerent, cusses, has thrown cigerette butts at the stairs. We have had an expensive solar lantern "mysteriously" stolen right after she complained about us, there was some substance thrown on my car that is now eating away at the paint that showed up the night our lantern was stolen.
Stay away from the complex as there are many people who gossip with Deborah, the real homeowner association does not with complaints and will not do anything to resolve problems. The owner, Ed Van Herik, lives in Georgia and only cares about his rent check and has never once done anything about his unlicensed manager. She is very abusive and you will not be heard if you complain.
